"Glass Castle", given by parents, is it hurt or nourished?

Many of the imprints on children's hearts are inadvertently imprinted by adults – Montessori.

There are so many outstanding books about the original family, I have read two books - "The Original Family" and "Reconciliation with the Original Family". And this film based on Janet Wales' memoirs, "Glass Castle", can be said to be a high-scoring figurative presentation about the original family, and I have the opportunity to read the original book well, because although the film has been very successful, the film also has its own limitations, and there are many words that can express things that the film cannot do.

Janet's parents are like a pair of legendary contradictions. Realistically, they're just terrible — four children are so left alone and hungry. Dad drank and gambled, Mom was bent on painting, and the four children were completely "free-ranging".

Dad, on the other hand, was very knowledgeable and knew almost everything. This is a spiritual point of view for parents, very much love for their children, encouragement, support, companionship, freedom.

The film has two details, related to the book -

On Thanksgiving, Mom and Dad's gift to the kids was a book, and janet was a book, mom said, maybe you can write your own book.

After her father's serious illness, Janet, who had become the social elite and had broken with her father, returned to her parents' dilapidated temporary home and sat by her father's bedside, where books could be seen everywhere, even though the environment was dilapidated.

Janet's feelings about her parents' feelings about the family are particularly contradictory, on the one hand, the parents' waste of firewood and escapism, so that several of their brothers and sisters have experienced tragic childhood and growth, on the other hand, the parents, especially the father, have given them spiritual nourishment, so that these children, especially Janet and her siblings, take care of each other and make a decision - to receive school education and leave this home that has disappointed them again and again. So they supported each other and encouraged them to study hard, go to college, have their own careers, and get their lives on the right track.

Janet's brushstrokes also delve into the transmission of family hurt – the children's father, Max, himself suffered severe family trauma, had a gloomy, oppressive, perverted mother, he spent his childhood in extreme pain, and the letters filled the box with heartfelt letters, which were accidentally discovered by his own children many years later, and Janet had more understanding and heartache for her father. Maybe Father Max doesn't want to go back to his own home, doesn't want to face his mother, and the extreme "release of self" is an extreme backlash against the extreme suppression of the mother. Unfortunately, the bitter fruit of this backlash was borne by several innocent children in addition to his own life.

But like Catwoman in Mad men, Father Max is already trying to get his kids out of his demons. Although he himself could not escape, from the ending, although the children experienced a painful childhood, in the end it was basically regarded as "escape success", which opened a new chapter in their lives.

Like emotional life, the original family and growth are never finished topics, parents, children, and even one generation or two generations, there are too many intricate and intricate relationships. Parents are often contradictory, while fighting with their own psychological trauma, while taking on the heavy responsibility of shaping their children's lives, there is love, mistakes, strength and powerlessness in the process, and there is also the power to turn the tide...
