Agence France-Presse Washington reported on Jan. 20 that the U.S. Supreme Court on Wednesday rejected a request by former President Donald Trump to block the submission of documents related to the Capitol Hill riots on January 6 last year.

Trump, citing administrative privilege, is trying to prevent the national archives from being handed over to a committee investigating the Capitol Hill riots. Trump, accused of inciting attacks on Congress, asked the U.S. Supreme Court to delay the entry into force of a federal appeals court ruling that rejected his request for the confidentiality of documents.

But the Supreme Court's refusal to issue a moratorium, by an 8-vote to 1 vote, upheld the lower court's ruling, a major setback for the former president.

Democrat Benny Thompson, chairman of the House Special Committee investigating the capitol Hill attack, and Liz Cheney, vice chairman and Republican, praised the decision.

They issued a statement saying: "The Supreme Court's action tonight is a victory for the rule of law and American democracy. ”

Trump wants to block documents handed over to the commission, including emails, call logs, briefing materials and other dossiers. The 770-plus-page dossier includes his former chief of staff, Mark Meadows, former senior adviser Stephen Miller, and former deputy legal counsel Patrick Philbin.

The Associated Press reported on Jan. 20 that the U.S. House of Representatives Special Committee Chair benny Thompson and vice chairman Liz Cheney, who investigated the Capitol Hill riots on Jan. 6 last year, said the committee had begun receiving files that former President Donald Trump wanted to keep secret.

In a statement, Thompson and Cheney vowed to "expose all the facts about the Events of Jan. 6 and their causes."

A day earlier, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled rejecting Trump's request to block the filing of relevant dossiers. White House official Mike Gwen called the ruling "an important step forward" in the investigation.
