Nadine Labaki's first novel, Caramel, focuses on the living conditions of Lebanese women

After gaining experience in directing numerous short and musical videos in the Arab world, Nadine Labaki directed her first feature film, Caramel, in 2007. The film focuses on Lebanese women, and Nadine also played the main role in this directorial debut, starring Rayari, who works in a beauty salon. Through her perspective, the different life situations of five women are shown: some people struggle between family affection and love, some people are unwilling to give up their dreams but repeatedly run into walls, and some people are anxious in the age crisis... From a female perspective, Nadine slowly unfolds a group portrait of a woman through a soft picture, neither harsh nor sympathetic, but loyal to the original appearance of life with sweetness and bitterness.
