Exquisite egg carvings

When the eggs are delicious, where do the eggshells go?

Perhaps most people's answer is to throw away or become flower fat. In the hands of art teacher Li Yaping, a small eggshell can be turned into a very exquisite egg carving artwork.

A fixed fate, from the tip of the knife to fall in love with the "egg"

A small eggshell can present a wonderful world in the skillful hands of craftsmen. And such a "unique job", Li Yaping has long been familiar with it.

Egg carving, a handmade art of carving on eggshells, blends painting and carving. Because its main material eggshell is almost spherical, it implies the meaning of "reunion" and "consummation", which has the meaning of auspiciousness. As soon as she talked about egg carving, Li Yaping was like a number of family treasures, gushing endlessly.

"In 2008, the art of egg carving was also included in the list of zhengzhou municipal intangible cultural heritage, and my egg carving teacher is a non-hereditary inheritor." While speaking, Li Yaping picked up an eggshell, which could be sketched at will in a fraction of a centimeter, showing it all.

The first time she came into contact with egg carving was five years ago, when Li Yaping only looked at it and fell in love with this "fragile" art. In 2015, during a class preparation and preparation of materials, Li Yaping happened to see a picture of an egg carving and was very surprised. "I've never seen this art form, and I've never known that it can be carved on thin eggshells!" Surprised, curious, liked... The inner rush of all this eventually drove her to make up her mind to challenge this art.

Small eggshells are carved with large worlds

"At that time, through my friends at the Cultural Center, I learned that we have an intangible cultural heritage museum (Zhengzhou Intangible Cultural Heritage Exhibition Hall) in Zhengzhou, and egg carving is still an intangible cultural heritage project."

Soon, through this project, Li Yaping met her teacher, Mr. Hu Zhanlin, a non-hereditary heir of Zhengzhou City. It was also from Mr. Tiger that she slowly learned more about the art of egg carving, and at this point, she was really exposed to the art of egg carving.

"Egg carving is a job that needs to endure loneliness." Li Yaping said that before carving, there is a lot of work that needs to be prepared. When choosing eggs, choose a darker color, more uniform, moderate size, smooth skin, and separate the egg liquid from the eggshell after selection. Next, there is a series of treatments for eggshells.

Sterilize, let stand, wait for three or five days, let the inside of the eggshell dry thoroughly, and then paint and carve. When carving, it is even more necessary to endure loneliness, the tip of the knife dancing on the eggshell, and every millimeter requires extreme meditation and concentration. Every egg carving piece requires a lot of effort. Therefore, for every carver, every egg carving work contains a lot of hard work, and also contains a big world.

Bring egg carvings into the classroom

Master led into the door, practicing in the individual, Li Yaping's egg carving skills are increasing day by day.

In 2016, she boldly set up an egg carving club at the school, which won a hit on the day of admissions. The club was successfully opened, and Li Yaping also invited Teacher Hu Zhanlin to the school regularly to give guidance to students. At the same time, Li Yaping will also take students to the Cultural Center, the Intangible Cultural Heritage Museum, and the Egg Carving Inheritor's Studio from time to time to visit, exchange and study.

In the past two years, the egg carving course of Zhengzhou No. 37 Middle School has been in various forms, and its works have been well received, and they have won gratifying results in provincial and municipal competitions.

When Li Yaping was relatively mature in the development of the club, she opened an egg carving school course in the school, facing more students.

When egg carving art as a school-based course is open to all students, it is necessary to adjust the direction of the class: "The course is mainly based on appreciation, the works are not mandatory, and there is no standard answer." ”

For example, in the egg carving school class, students can carve out works if they can completely carve, and if they can't carve, they are encouraged to use their imagination and change their art forms. "When students break the eggshells, they do collage; they don't carve and they can draw on the eggshells." Li Yaping said.

There is no standard answer for art, and there is no fixed pattern for fine art. Since there are no standard answers in Li Yaping's class, students have no frustration, and the classroom atmosphere has always been relaxed and pleasant.

In the past 5 years with egg carving, Li Yaping and her thirty-seven have been steadily improving the spirit of craftsmanship. Today, 42-year-old Li Yaping has encountered the collision of egg carving and embroidery, opening a new round of learning mode.
