Chu Shiqi: Verify that Lei Feng once published a newsletter in Fushun Daily

On April 4, 1960, in the middle of the third page of Fushun Daily, there was a report titled "The Hard and Simple People's Children and Soldiers", signed lei feng

When I was sorting out a bound edition of Fushun Daily, a volume from forty years ago, I stumbled upon a report titled "The Hard and Simple Soldiers of the People" in the middle of the third edition on April 4, 1960. The whole text is divided into three natural paragraphs, counting more than 250 words. It introduced the situation of all the comrades of the fifteen squads and five platoons of the Platon Army stationed in a certain department of the People's Liberation Army to save money and waste, and the signature of the money was "Tu Xingzhi and Lei Feng" in parentheses.

After reading the whole article, the author immediately felt that this draft seemed to be written by Comrade Lei Feng in that year.

Verification: This draft was written by Comrade Lei Feng in that year

There are four reasons for this:

First, after Lei Feng joined the army in January 1960, he went to work in Fushun, and this period of time was during Lei Feng's work in Fushun.

Second, from the words between the lines, it is not difficult to see that "the People's Liberation Army is stationed in a certain department ... Some collect and use rags to save car towels", which seems to be related to Lei Feng's driving and maintenance of cars as an engineer.

The third is "cleaning out a thousand pounds of cement from the carriage", which seems to be related to Lei Feng's deeds of saving cement in the process of transporting cement.

The fourth is the "Thunder Peak" in the author's signature, although "Peak" is different from "Feng", but it does not exclude reasons such as clerical errors.

The above points prompt me to find out.

In order to verify that this article may have been written by Lei Feng, I began to consciously look for relevant supporting materials based on several clues in the report.

First, is the "fifteen squads stationed in a certain unit..." mentioned in the text the unit where Lei Feng was located? Second, is the "driver Fu Changji and that red talent" mentioned in the article a comrade-in-arms of Lei Feng's troops? Third, is "signed tu xingzhi and Lei Feng" Lei Feng?

Fortunately, the kung fu did not pay off, according to some Lei Feng comrades recalled the number of his unit, which was a certain unit of the engineering corps of the Shenyang Military Region at that time, also known as the 7343 unit, and it was not clear whether there was a fifteen squad. However, this problem was quickly proved by a suicide note from Comrade Lei Feng.

In 2003, based on a letter published in Fushun Daily on April 13, 1962 from a primary school student who corresponded with Comrade Lei Feng, I found this outstanding provincial teacher who had been silently learning from Lei Feng and a model worker in Fushun City, Comrade Zhang Xuan.

Lei Feng's correspondence with elementary school student Zhang Xuan, published on April 13, 1962

And through Zhang Shufen, director of the Fushun Lei Feng Memorial Hall, the original manuscript of Lei Feng's letter was found in the Lei Feng relics stored in the military museum, signed as "The fifteenth squad of the 7343 unit of the Wanghua District of the city (Fushun City)"

Immediately after that, in the 310 pages of the "Complete Works of Lei Feng" published by the Chinese Publishing House, a "congratulatory letter signed by Lei Feng, a soldier of the 15 squads of the 7343 unit" written on February 15, 1961, to the "Party Committee and all the members of the Workers' and Peasants' People's Commune" in Wanghua District, Fushun City. It also proved that Lei Feng's unit at that time was the 15 squad of unit 7343.

The "driver Fu Changji and that red talent" mentioned in the report also quickly had a clue. Comrade Lei Feng, who now lives in Shenyang, was a master who was studying to drive in the army, and Yang Fengpu, the chief secretary of the department, confirmed that fu Changji and Na Hongcai were both drivers of the fifth platoon of the fifteenth squad at that time, and returned to their original hometowns in Henan after changing jobs.

In addition, on the 172 pages of the book "The Complete Works of Lei Feng," it was found that Comrade Lei Feng wrote and published in the factory newspaper "Red Star Daily" on September 24, 1960, when he accompanied the troops in the "751" project construction of the Fushun Steel Plant, and published in the factory newspaper "Red Star Daily", which also mentioned a similar situation of "cleaning cement bit by bit". (Fu Changji and Fu Changqi's names are homophonous)

It is worth mentioning that from this report, it can be seen that Lei Feng is a person who loves writing very much. The "I Learned to Drive a Tractor" published in Wangcheng Bao on March 16, 1958 and "I Am Determined to Answer the Call" published in the "Mining Newspaper" of Angang Bow Changling Mine on December 9, 1959 are all articles written by Lei Feng in the form of a newsletter report that year.

So why is this report signed with the "peak" of the mountain? The "Lei Feng Chronology" published by jilin provincial publishing house in January 1992 has such a record: In August 1958, Anshan Iron and Steel Company went to Hunan to recruit young workers... Lei Feng's departure from the agricultural front to the industrial front was an important turning point in his life. He "conscientiously" filled out the recruitment registration form, and from here, he changed his original name Lei Zhengxing to "Lei Feng", which means to stand tall and climb the peak at the starting point of this life turn. Later, I felt that it was still inappropriate, and I went to Angang to charge! In this way, the word "peak" was changed to the word "feng". In fact, Lei Feng often uses "peak" and "feng" in his life and work, and the word is used interchangeably. On September 9, 1961, Lei Feng used the "peak" of the mountain peak on the savings certificate of deposit, and Lei Feng's people's congress deputy card of that year also wrote "Lei Feng".

Conclusion, the author of this report at that time, "Lei Feng", is the Lei Feng we know

In summary, it can be concluded that the author of this report at that time, "Lei Feng", is the Lei Feng we are familiar with. Unfortunately, the other person in the report, "Tu Zhixing", has not been able to find out who his situation is.

Later, I consulted the "People's Liberation Army Daily" dated March 6, 1993, and published a letter Chinese the People's Liberation Army Newspaper hiring Lei Feng as a correspondent in an article signed by Cao Ruilin and Chen Dapeng, which read:

Comrade Lei Feng:

Knowing that your unit has identified you as a correspondent of this newspaper, we extend a warm welcome and send a special letter to formally hire you.

Comrade correspondents are the vanguard of the communications and reporting work, the right-hand man of the editorial department of the newspaper, and the important force in implementing the principle of "running the newspaper by the whole party." It is honorable to be a party newspaper correspondent. We hope that after you become a correspondent, under the leadership of the Party Committee and political organs, you will strive to improve your policy, thinking and writing level and complete the tasks of a correspondent. (First, actively write articles for this newspaper; second, timely and truthfully reflect the situation of the troops; third, mobilize the masses to write articles, and often reflect their own and readers' opinions and demands on the newspaper. )

It is hoped that the links will be strengthened in the future.

People's Liberation Army Newspaper

November 17, 1961

The original letter of appointment is said to be in the archives of Lei Feng in the Museum of the Chinese Revolution. In summary, it can be seen that Lei Feng was not only an excellent soldier, an excellent off-campus counselor, a deputy to the Fushun Municipal People's Congress, but also an excellent correspondent.

The discovery of the report written by Lei Feng that year and the situation of "Lei Feng was a correspondent of the military newspaper" disclosed by the People's Liberation Army Daily are of certain significance to our comprehensive understanding of Comrade Lei Feng's life. Perhaps, there are still some omissions in Lei Feng's life deeds, and we have the responsibility to work hard to dig up and sort them out.
