IonQ said the collaboration will create a battery chemistry model to simulate the structure and energy of lithium oxide, helping to improve the performance, cost and safety of lithium batteries. The researchers believe that quantum computers can run millions of times faster than current advanced supercomputers, potentially speeding up tasks such as mapping complex molecular structures and chemical reactions.

Experts say that to achieve this goal, quantum computers still need to be further scaled up. Still, businesses from banks to pharmaceutical companies are testing through different approaches to getting started with quantum computers and prepare for the future until they become more reliable.

This research has the potential to lead to new types of raw materials that will save time, cost and effort in battery production in the coming years, which will be a key advancement, because batteries are typically the most expensive components in electric vehicles. TaeWon Lim, Executive Vice President and Head of the Materials Research and Engineering Center at Hyundai Motor Group, said: "This creative collaboration with IonQ promises to provide innovations in the development of basic materials for various parts of the future of mobility in virtual spaces. We are very happy to be able to step into the upcoming quantum era and have the potential to improve the efficiency of batteries. ”
