"Fuhai Pioneer" South Yellow Sea, my sea of life

"Li Jianhuai, who is now in his seventies, is a typical case of many photographers in China." Not long ago, Li Jianhuai's personal photography insights were published in the January 2022 issue of China Photography magazine, which used more than a dozen pages of large pages to detail his personal experience and his works.

In 1958, Li Jianhuai was born on the Yellow Sea. As a native of Rudong, he has feelings for every soil, water, grass and tree in his hometown. Today, the magnificent and unique river and sea style and colorful cultural landscape provide rich and unique materials for his photography. Whenever Li Jianhuai held up the camera, the scene in the viewfinder intoxicated him, and the sound of the shutter stirring excited him.

Embark on the path of photography

In 1975, Li Jianhuai responded to the call of the state and joined the team to receive re-education from poor and lower-middle-class peasants at the Huandong Forest Farm in the county. Although the conditions of the forest farm at that time were much worse than those in the county seat, eating and living and working with the poor and lower-middle peasants also deepened Li Jianhuai's feelings with the local fishermen and peasants.

In 1976, Huandong Forest Farm decided to use the advantages of many trees in the forest farm to set up a fiberboard factory, and needed to go to other places to learn technology, in order to learn the technology well, they thought of taking pictures to photograph the operation process. Therefore, the field department spent more than 100 yuan to buy a Great Wall brand camera, and the field department leaders decided to give it to Li Jianhuai to use and keep. At that time, Li Jianhuai, who was holding the camera, did not mention how happy he was. And it is this Great Wall brand camera that has led Li Jianhuai to the temple of photography art.

In 1978, Li Jianhuai was admitted to the Haimen Normal Art Class and systematically learned art knowledge at the school. In 1979, Li Jianhuai saved money and spent more than 100 yuan to buy a double-lens Seagull camera and began to create photography. In 1980, after graduating from the middle school, Li Jianhuai was assigned to Diggang Primary School as an art teacher, and while teaching children well, he actively participated in various photography technology training. In 1981, Li Jianhuai was transferred to the county cultural center to engage in full-time photography.

In 1983, Li Jianhuai's four works were selected for the Jiangsu Provincial Photography Art Exhibition. In 1984, he was admitted to the Jiangsu Branch of the Chinese Photographers Association. In 1985, he was admitted to the Department of Photography of Nanjing Normal University to study art photography, becoming the first batch of photography students in the province. In 1987, the Nantong Municipal Cultural Center held a solo photography exhibition for Li Jianhuai, who was 29 years old, which was rare at the time.
