On January 20, The Paper (www.thepaper.cn) learned from the China Coast Guard Bureau that recently, under the unified deployment of the Guangdong Coast Guard Bureau, the Coast Guard Bureaus of Shanwei, Zhuhai and Jieyang successfully seized an extraordinarily large case of smuggling frozen products, arrested 5 people involved in the case, seized 1 ship involved in the case, smuggled 413 tons of frozen goods, and the case value exceeded 20 million yuan.

This case is the first major achievement of the Guangdong Coast Guard Bureau to direct the joint investigation and anti-smuggling of multiple coast guard agencies since the beginning of 2022.

At about 1:30 a.m. on January 5, the Guangdong Coast Guard Command Center received a report from the Zhuhai Coast Guard bureau that a bulk carrier that may be carrying smuggled frozen goods will pass through the waters of Shanwei. After receiving the report, the Guangdong Coast Guard Bureau quickly dispatched patrol ships to the target sea area to investigate. After nearly 5 hours of arduous searching, the patrol ship found a suspected target cargo ship in the waters opposite Shanwei Jiazi, and immediately sounded its siren to signal the ship to stop for inspection. However, the suspect ship refused to stop the ship and accelerated in a snake-like manner in an attempt to get rid of the pursuit.

After being instructed, the on-site commander immediately activated the emergency plan, and together with the Jieyang Coast Guard Bureau, who rushed to reinforcement, formed an arrest team and a boarding team to do a good job in maritime vigilance, control, and arrest. After nearly 2 hours of unremitting efforts, the arrest team and the boarding team successfully arrested 5 suspects riding in lifeboats and effectively controlled the suspect ship.

After investigation, the suspect ship was loaded with a batch of frozen products such as tripe and beef louver with obvious foreign language markings totaling 413 tons, and the batch of frozen products did not have any legal source procedures and inspection and quarantine certificates.

At present, the Shanwei Coast Guard Bureau has filed a case for investigation, and contacted the relevant departments to conduct nucleic acid testing and sterilization of the people and goods involved in the case.
