Taipei, 19 Jan (China Commentary) -- The election of members of the Central Committee of the Chinese Kuomintang will be voted on 23 January, and on 19 January, the Central Standing Committee will further discuss the detailed rules for the election of the Central Standing Committee, as well as the draft points for the implementation of the communication voting of party deputies overseas and mainland China.

The KMT's past practice was to re-elect the Standing Committee between October, and the previous term of office was supposed to be re-elected in October 2019 due to the needs of the 2020 general election supplementary election, and later postponed to March 2020, but last year, due to the epidemic, the party's internal elections, including the party chairman, were postponed, and the two-year term of the Central Standing Committee can be until March 2024.

However, the election momentum from the election of central committee members was not enthusiastic this time, the KMT had 39 "legislators", less than half of them were willing to enter the party's power core, and only 18 participated in the election of central committee members; The KMT currently has 14 county mayors, and only Xu Zhenwei, the governor of Hualien County, is involved in the election of members of the Central Committee and strives to enter the core of party power.

According to the provisions of the Party Constitution, the Standing Committee members must have the status of central committee members, and must pay 500,000 yuan in advance for the fundraising responsibility of the standing committee members in 2022 as a deposit for participation in the election, but because when registering for the election of the central committee members, the annual fundraising responsibility of the central members has been paid 100,000 yuan, so when participating in the election of the standing committee, only 400,000 yuan of difference is needed.

According to the method for the election of members of the Kuomintang Central Committee, the number of members of the Central Committee is rated at 190, and the number of alternate members of the Central Committee is rated at 95, and they are elected by the Party deputies. As for the Central Standing Committee, the Party Constitution will be amended at the National Congress to be held in 2020, and the number of members of the Central Standing Committee will be reduced from 32 to 29.

The KUOMINTANG will hold a standing meeting on the 19th to discuss the details of the election of the 21st 1st Central Standing Committee, and the preliminary plan is to hold the election of the Central Standing Committee on March 5.
