But the ancient legends are too far away, and the authenticity of the story needs to be verified. People now prefer to believe that the name Taishi Cake is related to the famous historian Sima Qian of the Western Han Dynasty.

During the Western Han Dynasty, more than 100 years BC, 10-year-old Sima Qian followed his father Sima Tan to Chang'an, and traveled all over the country around the age of 20 to 35. He has been a studious since he was a child, and whenever he goes to a place, he will visit the local monuments and relics, talk with the local elders, investigate customs, and collect legends.

In the third year of the Yuan Dynasty (108 BC), Sima Qian succeeded his father Sima Tan in his post, served as The History Order, read the books collected by the historians, and in the first year of the Taichu Dynasty (104 BC), together with Tang Du and his subordinates Hong, revised the Taichu Calendar, and carried out a series of reforms to the calendar, and later was implicated and imprisoned for defending Li Ling, who surrendered to the Xiongnu, in front of Emperor Wu of han.

During this period, Sima Qian had officially begun to write the "Records of History", and in order to complete the heavy task of compiling the "Records of History", he lived a hard life of "living in seclusion and forbearance, and staying in the soil without resignation" with the tenacity of "capital punishment without shame", and worked hard to write books, often filling his hunger with a round cake with sesame seeds on both sides.

People were touched by Sima Qian's tenacious spirit, so they named the cakes he had eaten after his title "Taishi Ling" and called them Taishi cakes. Later, the imperial cooks of the imperial court of successive dynasties specially made this cake for those Taishi who drafted documents, recorded historical facts, and wrote history books, which was called "Taishi Cake".
