At the end of December 1950, the 124th Division of the 42nd Army of the Volunteer Army was ordered to penetrate south of Jining-ri, North Korea, with the task of cutting off the retreat routes of the ROK 2nd and 2nd Divisions fleeing from Daongsang and preventing the enemy from reinforcing Daeong-
At dawn on December 25, the 4th Company of the 2nd Battalion of the 372nd Regiment, as a sharp knife company, successfully penetrated to the vicinity of the Julin River, the first large village south of the "38th Line".
A platoon was the first to enter the village, and was ready to take a break here, but they did not expect that the village had been occupied by a battalion of the South Korean Army.
The squad leader Zhao Hengwen was an excellent soldier, on the one hand, he was earnest in his meritorious service, on the other hand, he was worried that the enemy would run away, and he actually made a bold decision - to attack the enemy of a battalion with the strength of a squad!

At that time, Zhao Hengwen's idea was: According to the combat experience summed up by our army, the South Korean army was particularly afraid of death, and often began to take the road and flee as soon as it heard the sound of gunfire. Although the number of our army is small, as long as a slight impact can make this group of death-fearing ghosts in chaos.
In this way, Zhao Hengwen led the whole class to attack the enemy in the village, and they lightly loaded themselves and traveled quickly all the way, and it did not take long to touch the village.
Zhao Hengwen's idea was to quietly find out the enemy's battalion headquarters, "hit the snake first and hit the head", remove its command center, and then clean up the rest of the enemy.
Unexpectedly, due to the unfamiliar terrain, as soon as they entered the village, they were discovered by the enemy's dark sentry, and as soon as the enemy sentry's gun sounded, the battle suddenly began.
Due to the failure of the enemy's radio, the South Korean army in the village had not yet received the news that Doseong Dae had fallen, and they never expected that the volunteer army would suddenly kill them unconsciously, so they fell into extreme panic.
After a while, the panicked commander of the enemy battalion began to organize fire in a hurry, trying to block the road and prevent the volunteers from advancing.
Zhao Hengwen was not in danger, thinking that although our side only had one squad of troops, there were also advantages of few people, that is, it was fast and flexible to act.
He immediately led the soldiers to fire a few shots on the east side of the village and a grenade on the west side, and used extremely drifting positions to make the enemy confused about their exact location and number, which played a role in disturbing the morale of the army and delaying time.
This move did work, the enemy fought for half a day, but he was always played by Zhao Hengwen and the soldiers.
At this moment, the company commander Wang Qingxiu arrived with the whole company, and they joined forces to launch a frontal attack on the enemy.
However, the enemy had a battalion of troops, and the superiority of weapons and equipment, coupled with their familiarity with the terrain and strong fortifications, made the volunteer attack slow to open up the situation.
Zhao Hengwen had another plan, and after asking the company commander for instructions, he led the whole class along the foot of the mountain on the right side of the village, and while the enemy was focusing on the front, he quietly circled around to his side and launched a surprise attack.
The enemy was completely disrupted at this point, and finally revealed his nature of being afraid of death, and they all hugged the rats. In order to escape quickly, many soldiers threw away everything they could throw, not even a gun.
During the pursuit, Zhao Hengwen saw that the enemy threw carbines everywhere, which just solved the problem of the lack of ammunition for the whole class, and he was very happy.
He and the soldiers kept picking up the guns on the ground, and when they had finished shooting the bullets in the guns, they threw them aside, and replaced them with one to continue chasing and fighting.
Although these enemies are all South Korean officers and soldiers, they are all wearing big American leather boots, and they lack strict training in peacetime, so how can they really run faster than the volunteer soldiers who have been tempered by the War of Resistance Against Japan and the War of Liberation? Therefore, after a while, Zhao Hengwen actually broke into the middle of the enemy group alone.
Although the enemy was numerous, he almost threw out his guns, and he could not figure out how many volunteers there were, so it was like a flock of lambs who were chased by tigers and only knew how to scream, but they were powerless to fight back.
Zhao Hengwen saw that the target was too scattered to go on like this, and he had to change his way. He simply stopped chasing, stood in the middle of the enemy group, shot a shuttle of bullets into the air with the gun in his hand, and shouted angrily: "Don't move!" Stop me all! ”
The enemy was calmed by Zhao Hengwen's gunshots and roars, but he couldn't understand what he meant by what he said, and he was momentarily stunned and overwhelmed.
What's next? Zhao Hengwen didn't really know it, because he didn't speak Korean and couldn't make orders for the enemy to surrender.
In order to maintain the aura of deterrence against the enemy, he then shouted, "I am the Chinese People's Volunteer Army!" ”
As soon as the words came out, he became annoyed: What is the use of shouting like this? Even if you talk too much, the enemy will not understand it! I really regret that I didn't learn Korean well, and now I can't hold the Buddha's feet temporarily.
Incredibly, his loud roar led to a coincidence, understood by the only South Korean soldier in the enemy group who had a rough Chinese, and he hesitated to stand up and asked in half-baked Chinese: "Are you Chinese?" ”
Zhao Hengwen's eyes lit up: "Yes! I'm Chinese! Do you speak Chinese? ”
"Not really, only a little bit."
"That's easy to do! Now you are my interpreter, telling your people that you have been surrounded, that the volunteers are giving preferential treatment to prisoners, and that you must surrender at once. ”
"Yes... Yes..."
"Let them all lay down their weapons and line up in the direction I have specified..."
With the help of the South Korean soldier, the enemy was finally persuaded to become Zhao Hengwen's prisoners.
Just when Zhao Hengwen was worried about how to escort these prisoners back, the volunteer army brigade arrived in time, and the enemy who was originally a little foolish was completely honest.
After counting, Zhao Hengwen captured a total of 50 prisoners, including 49 male soldiers and 1 female soldier.
Because of Zhao Hengwen's outstanding performance in the battle and the amazing results of capturing 50 enemy soldiers by one person, he was awarded the glorious title of "Hero of the Enemy" by the leading organ of the Volunteer Army, and his squad was also honored with a collective meritorious service.
