Pure natural kaempferol
On January 11, 2022, biotech company Conagen announced that it has extracted kaempferol from its flavonoid antioxidant molecules for use in nutrition, beauty and personal care products, among others.
According to reports, kaempferol is a flavonoid that is found in a variety of dietary sources, such as kale, legume tea, spinach and broccoli, which can also be found in herbs. Kaempferol flavonoids have strong antioxidant activity, while having antibacterial and anti-inflammatory, immune and other effects. According to Merriam-Webster, the molecule was named after the 18th-century German physician and naturalist Engelbert Kaempfer. According to Global Market Insights, Inc recently released a research report that the global kaempferol market is expected to exceed $6.5 billion by 2025.
Dr. Casey Lippmeier, Vice President of Innovation at Conagen, said: "Conagen produces flavonoids such as pure natural kaempferol with more efficient scalability, sustainability and precise fermentation than chemically synthesized or plant-derived molecules on the market. This ingredient launch will further demonstrate Conagen's innovative capabilities, which are ideal for clean label ingredients in dietary supplements and functional foods, beverages and cosmetics. We will introduce the cost-effective kanosepam to the market within an affordable range. (Source: nutraingredients)

Plant-based sweetener Cambya
On January 11, 2022, BT Sweet launched Cambya, a plant-based sweetener, with the goal of designing sugar-reducing recipes tailored to customer requirements to help reduce the sugar content of at least 50% in snacks such as candy, ice cream, baking and more.
According to BT Sweet, Cambya sugar substitutes can be used in a variety of foods. Based on soluble fiber, monk fruit and other select plant ingredients, the formula has a 1:1 ratio of function and flavor to sugar and serves as a source of naturally beneficial fiber. Best of all, it eliminates the need to add a bitterness masking agent, and manufacturers can switch entirely to BT Sweet's natural sweeteners or balance it with sugar and other sweeteners according to the desired level without any adjustments to the formulation.
Vegan Boost, a natural flavor enhancer
International Taste Solutions (ITS) has developed a new range of natural flavor enhancers, Vegan Boost. Vegan Boost is known to come in both liquid and powder forms to improve the sensory quality of a range of plant-based cake and pastry products by highlighting butter and cream flavors, and if a more intense flavor is required, ITS also offers a product in a higher intensity range – vegan Boost Extra.
When dairy and egg ingredients are removed from bakery products, bakers can use several ingredients to reconstruct the structural properties of the product, some of which may produce odors, and Vegan Boost can help mask other flavors and provide a true flavor experience to ensure that those who follow a plant-based diet can enjoy baked products that taste as delicious as other consumers. Brighteed and Olam team up to unlock novel bioactive substances in black peppers and garlic
Olam Food Ingredients (ofi) partnered with brightseed, a bioscience data company, to explore which of its U.S. garlic and global black pepper varieties contain the highest levels of bioactive phytochemicals and link them to specific health benefits. Ofi will conduct research at its Center of Excellence for Ingredients in Fresno, California and Vietnam.
Brightseed refers to the new biological ingredient as "trophic dark matter" and uses digital models of human health to understand the effects and effects of the substance, and commercially develops it after clinical evaluation and regulatory review. Olam said the new partner will focus on research related to black pepper and garlic and will use Forager to analyze and determine how different regions, varieties, growing conditions and processing methods affect the phytochemical expression, bioactive potency and human health of black pepper. Based on garlic sources, ofi wanted to know which varieties offered the highest levels of bioactive substances.
Greg Estep, managing director and CEO of ofi's fragrance business, said: "Spices are largely valued for flavor, but should also be explored in terms of health applications. These data insights will help us unlock the health potential and differentiation in the spice supply and drive future innovations. Through our Customer Solutions and Ingredient Excellence Center, ofi continues to invest in its broad product portfolio. (Source: fooddive)
