The M40 155 mm self-propelled gun, known in English as the 155 mm Gun Motor Carriage M40, was introduced at the end of World War II.
The M40 had a total combat weight of 37.6 tons, a crew of 8 men, and was equipped with either the M1 gun or the M1A1 type 155mm cannon.
M40, entered into combat at the end of World War II. When the U.S. 1st Infantry Division attacked Cologne, Germany, the M40 participated in actual combat for the first time and became famous in World War I. Subsequently, the M40 also participated in the Operation okinawa in the Pacific Theater.
After the outbreak of the Korean War, the M40 returned to the battlefield.
