Sotheby's, one of the head auction houses, hit a new $1 billion high in luxury sales in 2021. This year's Lunar New Year season, Sotheby's will launch a luxury auction series, the upcoming "RE(LUX)" series in February, featuring precious jewelry, watches, liquors, collector's handbags and sneakers, which will be sold through different sales channels, including live and online auctions, as well as the "Buy Now" online shopping platform, highlighting the cross-category collection trend in the luxury sector.
It is reported that the auction preview was first held in Shanghai, and all the boutique products will be exhibited in Hong Kong from February 11 to 17. Highlights include a Brooch of The Dragonfly, the world's only fine jewelry from Van Cleef & Arpels, a set of top-of-the-line jadeite jewelry, as well as rare Alexandrites and Paraíba tourmaline, the "King of Tourmaline".
According to a previous report released by Bain & Company, the Chinese market is becoming increasingly important in the luxury goods industry, with its share of the global market increasing from 11% in 2019 to 21% in 2021, and it is expected that by 2025, this proportion will reach 25% to 27%.
