If it were not for the news that "Zeng Zhiwei Yu Wenle starred in "A Thought of Ignorance" with zero remuneration, this movie might have been drowned in the dense schedule of "Ghost in the Shell" released at the same time.
However, less than 3% of the schedule did not hide the light of "One Thought and No Understanding". Thick text, solid acting, not at all like a small film that costs 2 million yuan in 16 days. Some people have made an analogy with "Manchester by the Sea", and some people have praised it for continuing the foundation of Hong Kong films - the ability to tell stories.
Although there are flaws, "One Thought of Ignorance" does.
The English name of "A Thought of Ignorance" is Mad World, which better points out the main theme of the movie. Bipolar Huang Shidong (Yu Wenle) returned to society after a year of treatment in a mental hospital, and the world is no longer human. At the beginning, he stressed that "I am fine, I am normal", all he needed was to be treated as a normal person, and the answer to him was to be deeper and deeper hurt again and again.
Colleague's wedding, Adong's arrival caused a lot of commotion, and then the scene was noisy, only Adong alone looked at the tearful speech of the newcomer on the stage, he could not bear it, went on stage a word, bluntly said the word "respect", but was used as a pointer to disturb the wedding.
Antoine's life is not unburned, and the reappearance of his ex-girlfriend Jenny has cheered him up a lot, and even raised his eyebrows to tell Lao Dou that "your daughter-in-law is coming back". But being pulled to the church that advocates the so-called tolerance and benevolence the most, the girlfriend's "sharing" is the key to finally pushing Adong into the abyss.

Through the progression from respect, tolerance to understanding, "Ignorance" gradually narrows the scope of the people around Ah Dong to the people who are closest to him. It is also through this layer of progression that the audience enters the most painful memory of Ah Dong's mother-killing, but everyone understands that everything is insoluble.
Another clever feature of "A Thought of Ignorance" is that it shows the bottom society of Hong Kong through a honeycomb-like, each house only has bunk beds.
In the older generation, Adong's father was a former hong Kong-land cross-border driver, and he usually liked to brag that "in the 1980s, he didn't know how mighty it was, and his eyes were on the top of his head", although he gave up a son with a super high annual salary to study in the United States, but his old age was still very difficult.
Ah Dong's mother was an early immigrant to the mainland of Hong Kong, and during the intermittent period of mental illness, she will also remember the past "the family is so rich", but compared with reality, the heartache is more heart-wrenching; in the Mesozoic Generation, Master Yu's mother is a mainland visitor to Hong Kong, pinning all her hopes on her son Mr. Yu, hoping that he will "compete for the upper class" and become a "new Hong Konger"; plus a new generation of Ah Dong, who has steadily moved towards the middle level, but due to accidents, he has become a "zero-odd person" in society.
The cramped space and the difficulty of "eating" together with the identity anxiety generated by the class barrier constitute the bottom picture of "One Thought and Ignorance".
The screenwriter puts the unique experience of a generation on a person in the character setting, so that without much effort, the audience can make up for the tragic life of the character.
Jin Yanling, who filmed all the scenes in one day, interpreted the desperate mother who was decadent and seriously ill, and with just three words and two words, the audience could fully understand where the depressed knots in her life came from: "The petite woman wrongly married the Riba people" and "one wrong step wrong step" The fate of the trickery tortured her for a lifetime.
The relationship between Ah Dong's family is more representative: a father who has no culture and only knows how to drive, a mother who has a psychological gap and is estranged, a young son who is always absent from childhood, and the eldest son who is spoiled from childhood and the eldest son who does not love but takes care of his mother as an obligation... When families fall apart, the only thing left is to hug each other for warmth. Zeng Zhiwei and Yu Wenle's father-son relationship experienced their father's paranoid "I think you are sick", carefully cared for, participated in mutual aid meetings, and finally understood that "not everything can be replaced by outsiders", calmly moved and began to have a new life. Zeng Zhiwei once again played a low-level small person who was nearly a flower armor to be extremely vivid, and the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor was well deserved.
As for Yu Wenle, I just want to say that the Academy Awards temporarily owe him a best actor trophy.
