Lin Boqiang, a member of the National Energy Commission's Energy Expert Advisory Committee and dean of the China Energy Policy Research Institute at Xiamen University, said that "green electricity", that is, green electricity, refers to electricity obtained through the production process of zero carbon dioxide emissions (or close to zero carbon dioxide emissions). "Green electricity" mainly comes from clean energy, including solar energy, wind energy, biomass energy and so on. "There is no uniform definition of 'green electricity' in the world." Wang Zhixuan, vice chairman of the Expert Committee of the China Electricity Council, said that it generally refers to resource-saving and environment-friendly electric energy products such as protecting the ecological environment, reducing the consumption of resources such as water resources, not emitting or rarely emitting carbon dioxide to the environment, or neutralizing the emission of carbon di gasification. The use of "green electricity" in all venues of the Beijing Winter Olympics mainly refers to the photovoltaic power generation and wind power generation in Zhangjiakou, Hebei Province, which are fed into the Beijing power grid through the Zhangbei flexible DC power grid project, and provide guarantees for the "green electricity" operation of the Winter Olympic venues through the cross-regional green electricity trading mechanism for the Beijing Winter Olympic Games.

On the reasons for the use of "green electricity" in all venues, Lin Boqiang stressed that the benefits of using "green electricity" are obvious: First, the implementation of the "sustainable development" concept proposed by China's application for the Winter Olympics. With the help of the "Zhangbei Flexible DC Power Grid Experimental Demonstration Project", the Beijing Winter Olympics will be provided with "green electricity" generated by clean energy such as solar and wind energy, and the "green Olympic Games" will be realized, showing China's image as a responsible big country as a participant, contributor and leader in the construction of ecological civilization. The second is to demonstrate the confidence and attitude of the Chinese government in vigorously developing the clean energy industry. Emission reductions in the power sector are key measures to achieve carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals, while the development of the clean energy industry is related to the green development of the power industry. As the first time in the history of the Olympic Games to achieve 100% green electricity supply in all venues, it reflects the positive attitude of the Chinese government towards the development of the clean energy industry. What role does "green electricity" play in promoting the development of clean energy? In this regard, Lin Boqiang explained that the full use of "green power" at the Beijing Winter Olympics first released the top-level support signal and played a positive role in guiding green power investment. Promoting the construction of clean energy such as wind power and photovoltaics will help improve the ability to guarantee the supply of green electricity and accelerate the construction of a new power system with new energy as the main body, and help achieve the goal of carbon peaking and carbon neutrality.
