After several years of development, more than 20 varieties of three series of beauty pepper, chaotian pepper and industrial pepper have been formed. As of 2017, the area of peppers planted in Xiaomizhi Village reached 36,000 mu.
With the continuous expansion of the scale of pepper cultivation, the original scattered trading model is gradually unable to adapt to the large-scale development of the industry. In April 2017, the Xiaomizhi Village Committee Cooperative raised more than 13 million yuan to establish the "Chili Pepper Trading Market on the Top of the Mountain". The trading market covers an area of more than 40 acres, with 7 cold storages, equipped with a set of drying equipment with a daily treatment of 40 tons, and a standardized seedling base of 20 acres.
As a result, Xiaomizhi Village has a production platform integrating pepper planting, acquisition, processing, sorting, packaging, refrigeration and drying. Subsequently, the "Shantou Pepper Trading Market" of the Xiaomizhi Village Committee attracted pepper sellers in the county and even in Dali, Yiliang, Luliang and other regions.
"Although the scale of pepper cultivation is expanding, if the peppers produced cannot be sold, they will bring losses to pepper farmers." In order to ensure that the peppers can be planted and sold, the cooperative and the staff of the Agricultural Bureau of Shilin County have repeatedly gone to Yanshan, Jianshui, Shiping and other places to promote Stone Forest peppers and invite merchants to buy peppers in Stone Forest. According to statistics, Xiaomizhi Village traded more than 6,000 tons of peppers in 2017, and the highest daily turnover reached 238 tons. This marks that Xiaomizhi Village has improved the supporting services from planting, acquisition, storage, processing, sales, circulation and other links, and realized the transformation of the industry from quantity to quality, dispersion to intensive, and product to commodity.
In order to continue to expand the scale of transactions, the cooperative raised 24 million yuan in 2018 to build a new specialized pepper trading market platform of 22 mu and 26 mu in Guishan Town and Changhu Town respectively. The platform integrates pepper sorting, packaging and processing, of which 6,000 cubic meters of cold storage is newly added, 8,000 square meters of new purchase sorting workshops are added, and 2,000 square meters of processing workshops are built, which can process more than 40,000 tons of peppers per year.
After the completion of the three market trading platforms, pepper farmers in luliang, Luxi, Mile, Yiliang and other surrounding counties have successively come to the market to sell peppers. In addition, as of now, more than 20 domestic buyers have settled in the cooperative pepper trading market, purchasing 48,000 tons of peppers, and the average purchase price is 3 yuan per kilogram.
At present, the peppers produced by Xiaomizhi Village Committee are not only sold to Beijing, Shanghai, Guangdong, Sichuan, Hunan and other provinces and cities, but also exported to Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia and other countries. The successful experience of "Dense Branch Red" pepper radiation has driven the whole county and the surrounding areas to engage in pepper cultivation, and dense branch pepper has become a famous pepper product in Shilin County, leading the development of the county pepper industry.
