Wang Wei: Compose a more splendid picture of Chinese archaeology

【Scholar Profile】Wang Wei is a member of the Faculty of chinese Academy of Social Sciences, director of the Department of History, and chairman of the Chinese Archaeological Society.

In October 2021, the Yangshao Cultural Discovery and the 100th Anniversary of the Birth of Modern Chinese Archaeology was held, and General Secretary Xi Jinping sent a congratulatory letter to the conference, fully affirming the achievements of Chinese archaeology in the past century and making clear requirements for the future development direction of Chinese archaeology. The national archaeological community is invigorated and rejoiced, and Chinese archaeology has entered the fast lane of development. Archaeologists have a stronger sense of historical responsibility and mission, explore the unknown, trace the origin, and strive to study, interpret and publicize the inheritance of China's excellent traditional culture. Some bottlenecks that have long constrained the development of Archaeology in China, such as staffing, are being vigorously resolved. Chinese archaeology has accelerated the pace of "going out" and has carried out joint archaeological excavations and cultural heritage protection in more than 20 countries. The international status of Chinese archaeology is constantly improving. It can be said that Chinese archaeology is ushering in an unprecedented golden age!

At the request of Guangming Daily, China Cultural Relics Newspaper and other newspapers and periodicals, I wrote several articles reviewing the century-old course and achievements of Chinese archaeology from different angles. Together with more than 270 scholars across the country, he co-authored and published a 9.17 million-word tome, "A Hundred Years of Chinese Archaeology (1921-2021)", which is a great gift we dedicate to the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China, the centenary of the birth of Chinese archaeology, and to the academic circles at home and abroad. Last year, I also composed five songs to commemorate the centenary of the birth of modern Chinese archaeology, including "A Hundred Years of Heart Language", "I am a Chinese archaeologist", and "The Light of Yangshao", which expressed the voice of Chinese archaeologists in a musical way.

Facing 2022, Chinese archaeology has also opened a new journey for the next hundred years.

In 2022, Chinese archaeology will work hard, innovate, inherit and develop on the basis of the original with higher morale, more exciting spiritual outlook, and more firm pace of pioneering, so as to achieve new breakthroughs and create new brilliance. The construction of archaeology with Chinese characteristics, Chinese style and Chinese style will be realized step by step through the joint efforts of archaeologists across the country. Our archaeological excavations, cultural heritage protection, the publicity and promotion of archaeological achievements, and the internationalization of archaeology will all take a new step and create a new situation. Chinese archaeologists will continue to adhere to the guidance of Marxism, adhere to the guidance of field archaeological excavations, adhere to the multidisciplinary integration, carry forward and inherit The excellent history and culture of China, show the origin and development of Chinese civilization, display the brilliant achievements of the Chinese nation and the outstanding contributions made to world civilization, and stride forward to achieve the grand goal!
