Manpower shortage! California keeps infected health care workers on the job

CCTV News: According to the Associated Press, due to the accelerated spread of the Omiljung mutant strain in the United States, there is a shortage of medical personnel in some areas. Just last weekend, the California Department of Health announced that health care workers who tested positive for nucleic acid but were asymptomatic could continue working.

The California Department of Health said such health care workers are required to wear N95 masks and are asked to designate treatment for patients who have already contracted the new coronavirus. The decision drew opposition and condemnation from the California Nurses Association, which warned that it would lead to more people being infected.

Cathy Kennedy, the association's president, said in a statement that it was dangerous to get infected health care workers back to work. As health care workers, they want to take good care of patients rather than become potential viruses to continue infecting others.

According to the official website of the California Department of Health, as of January 6, local time, there were 136816 confirmed cases and 540 deaths among medical staff in California.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reportedly said last month that healthcare workers without symptoms can return to work after 7 days if they test negative, but if there is a shortage of manpower, the isolation time can be further shortened.
