The crocus is the most colorful and beautiful of the shellfish, it has the reputation of "the king of shellfish", and is also the life star in the marine world, with a life expectancy of more than 100 years. However, due to human overfishing, the natural pot resources are seriously damaged.

Recently, the South China Sea Institute of Oceanography of the Chinese Academy of Sciences said that the team of Yu Ziniu, a researcher at the institute, has achieved results in the "cultivation of the second generation (strain) of the fancycle" in Sanya, Hainan and other places, and after on-site acceptance by experts, they have realized the artificial breeding of the second generation of the stone.

The natural brick is only 1 meter long for 100 years

Although the crocus is long-lived, they are not very large, and usually grow for a hundred years to grow to a shell length of about 1 meter. Their shells are usually only white or light yellow on the outside, and most of them are white inside, but the edges of a shell are brightly colored. Most crocus have a red or orange-red band, which is considered a treasure by many to be used to make pendants, rings, and bead bracelets. In the book "Infinite Life Sutra", it is called "Seven Treasures" together with gold, silver, coral, agate, glass, and amber.

Moreover, the fat closed shell muscle of crocus is processed into dry products and is a high sea treasure and has high medical value.

There are more than 60,000 artificially bred sub-generations

Human overfishing of crocus has long since severely damaged the lineup of natural bricks. However, it is a key framework species in coral reef ecosystems and can play a role in maintaining ecosystem stability.

The realization of the second generation of artificial breeding of the bricks makes the artificial breeding of the pots form an effective breeding closed loop, and there is no longer a need to use wild bricks as seed shells, which can protect the resources and ecosystems of the bricks to the greatest extent, and also lay the foundation for the future compliance and rational utilization. The sexually mature pot group formed by artificial breeding will also be able to more actively and effectively restore China's pot resources and protect the ecological environment of coral islands and reefs in the South China Sea.

In 2017, the Yuziniu team constructed the F0 group of the Huangyan Island group of the crocus, and in 2019, it cultivated the F1 group, that is, the blue and brown-green strains of the lilycer generation; in 2021, the sub-second generation F2 group of the above two strains was bred, and after 6 months of intermediate cultivation, the total number of these second generations of the crocus was more than 60,000, and the juvenile shells were healthy and vigorous.
