The historical legend of the Lapa Festival

Legend 1:

It is said that when Zhu Yuanzhang fell into distress in prison, it was a cold day, and Zhu Yuanzhang, who was cold and hungry, actually found some red beans, rice, dates, and other seven or eight kinds of grains from the rat hole in the prison. Zhu Yuanzhang boiled these things into porridge, because it was the eighth day of the first lunar month, and Zhu Yuanzhang praised this pot of mixed grain porridge as Lapa Porridge. Later, Zhu Yuanzhang calmed the world and sat north to south as emperor, in order to commemorate that special day in prison, he set this day as Lapa Festival, and officially named the multigrain porridge he ate that day as Lapa Porridge.

Legend 2:

The Festival of Lapa comes from the custom of "red beans fighting ghosts". Legend has it that one of the Five Emperors of the Ancients, the Three Sons, became evil spirits after the death of their three sons, and came out specifically to frighten the children. In ancient times, people generally believed in superstition, feared ghosts and gods, and believed that adults and children who had strokes and were in poor health were all due to the plague. These evil spirits are not afraid of heaven, only afraid of red (red) beans, so there is a saying that "red beans fight ghosts". Therefore, on the eighth day of the first lunar month, the porridge is boiled with red adzuki beans and red adzuki beans to dispel the epidemic and welcome the good fortune.

Myth 3:

The Festival of Lapa is based on the nostalgia of the loyal minister Yue Fei. In that year, Yue Fei led his troops to resist Jin in Zhuxian Town, and it was the middle of the severe winter of the ninth month, the Yue family army was poorly clothed, hungry and frozen, and the people sent porridge one after another, and the Yue family army ate a meal of "a thousand family porridges" sent by the people, and the result was a great victory. It was the eighth day of the first month of December. After Yue Fei's death, in order to commemorate him, the people cooked porridge with mixed grains and beans and fruits every eighth day of the first lunar month, and finally became a custom.

Legend Four:

Qin Shi Huang built the Great Wall, and the world's migrant workers were ordered to come, and they could not go home for many years, and they relied on their families to send food. Some migrant workers, separated by thousands of mountains and rivers, could not deliver food, resulting in many migrant workers starving to death at the Great Wall site. One year, on the eighth day of the first lunar month, the migrant workers who had no grain to eat together accumulated a few handfuls of grains, boiled them in a pot to make a thin porridge, drank a bowl each, and finally starved to death under the Great Wall. In order to mourn the migrant workers who starved to death at the Great Wall construction site, people eat "Lapa Porridge" on the eighth day of the first lunar month every year to commemorate it.

Legend Five:

Legend has it that the old two families live a life, hard-working, thrifty, save a lot of money, but the baby son is not angry, marrying a daughter-in-law is not virtuous, and soon lost the family business, to the eighth day of the first month of the Waxing Moon, the two are frozen and hungry, fortunately there are villagers, neighbors to help, cooked a pot of rice, noodles, beans, vegetables and other mixed together "mixed porridge". Meaning: "Eat a mixed porridge and teach the lessons to remember." "This porridge made the little two get rid of their bad habits, go to the right path, rely on diligent labor to maintain the family, and their lives will get better day by day." The folk custom of eating porridge is that people follow it in order to warn future generations with this lesson.
