In 1945, he heard the "Edict of the End of the War" issued by the Emperor of Japan from the tape recorder. It seems that it is an opportunity given by Heaven, after all, suicide is not a fufa. He must not commit suicide in obscurity, but will face the trial of the multitude and be sentenced to death by the people. At the end of December 1945, the Far Eastern Military Tribunal began trial of Hideki Tojo.
Of the 54 counts, Hideki Tojo defended himself against all of them and denied them. His defense is 220 pages long and has 220,000 words, comparable to a novel. The words in it are full of lies about how Japan is not invading, but only helping east Asian co-prosperity and so on. The local Japanese newspaper Asahi Shimbun commented on him as "shameless."
