Blue Horse Sports Alert: Just a few weeks after Tokyo, many of the world's top racers traveled to the Swiss town of Avenches for the FIMA Confederation European Triathlon Championships.
Once again, the British team went down in history, dominating the individual podium and winning gold in team competitions under the direction of team leader Dickie Waygood. Nicola Wilson, who won the individual title with JL Dublin, did not receive any other penalties after the dressage stage. She also broke the hopes of German female rider and defending champion Ingrid Klimke in pairing SAP Hale Bob OLD for a three-game winning streak.
Piggy March partnered Brookfield Inocent for silver and Sarah Bullimore with Corouet for bronze. It was the first time since 1991 that the British team swept three European Championship medals and for the first time ever that all female riders had reached the podium.
The last day of the competition is not only a day of celebration for the British team, but also a day to highlight the strength of women. Team members of the British team who won team medals include Rosalind Canter, Kitty King and Pigi Marche. Germany won the silver medal and sweden won the bronze medal.
