"Lane 8 of the Present Tide" is located at the intersection of Wujin Road on North Sichuan Road. This newly renovated century-old building complex is one of the most popular new landmarks of Shanghai's cultural tourism in recent times. Building 9, where the "Yuyin Society" is located, is located in the central area of the lane complex, maintaining the appearance of the Shikumen building that is as old as the whole. The green bricks and red bricks are staggered, presenting the traditional appearance of the lane house, and the triangular mountain frieze decoration made of stone and the Western-style classical pilaster door frame highlight the Combination of Chinese and Western Styles. Since 2018, Wang Peiyu and the "Yuyin Society" education team have walked into primary and secondary school campuses to teach Peking Opera in the form of club classes, covering more than 6,000 students in more than 40 schools in 10 districts of Shanghai. In 2021, the "Yuyin Society" officially prepared the children's Peking Opera education project and named it "Peking Opera Small Class", in order to pay tribute to the famous "Fu Liancheng" in the history of Peking Opera education and the opera classes that cultivate a large number of talents. After opening, the first store of "Yuyin Society" will be built as a composite platform for national art learning and exchange, undertaking a series of functions such as art education, collection display, theme curating, fan salon, cultural and creative incubation, etc., and linking with Yuyin Pavilion, an ancient opera building in Baoshan District operated by "Yuyin Society".
The theme of the opening ceremony, "The Return of the Tide", was inspired by the coincidence of the repetition of the three "tide" characters of "Lane 8 of the Present Tide", "Yu Tide Culture" and "National Tide Revival". Starting with the transformation of "Lane 8 of the Present Tide", North Sichuan Road will regain its former prosperity and grandeur; with the first store of "Yuyin Society" as the starting point, the sound of opera rhyme will also flow here again. When studying at the Shanghai Opera School, the young Wang Peiyu often shuttled through the deep old alleys of North Sichuan Road, and to this day, the brick walls and alleys and the shadows of the roof trees here are vaguely familiar and intimate. What is more fortunate is that her mother opened a Suzhou candy shop in this neighborhood to subsidize the family, and her aunt and grandmother also lived not far away.
Wang Peiyu said that watching parents bring their children to participate in the interview of the small science class, there will be a moment of surprise, as if traveling through time and space, seeing the childhood self. "I hope that when they grow up, they will come back here and see the Yuyin Society, and the memories are also happy and beautiful, and they will think like me, childhood is really good."
