Author James Gunn, as a recognized authority in the contemporary world science fiction community, has discussed the authors and representative works that have influenced the entire science fiction genre and played a role in the development of science fiction, outlining a clear context for the ever-changing science fiction. Originally published in 1975, Professor Gunn added a new chapter that brought the timeline to the 21st century and enriched the Asian section, making the new edition the latest and most authoritative history of world science fiction in the world.
American science fiction writer Isaac Asimov and Liu Cixin, a representative figure of Chinese science fiction, also made prefaces to the book " I love you , science fiction " and "The Force of Science Fiction" respectively.

Born in 1923 in Kansas City, Missouri, james Gunn is a well-known American science fiction writer, editor, scholar, and critic, former president of the American Science Fiction Writers Association (1971-1972) and president of the American Science Fiction Research Association (1980-1982), and the "Science Fiction Road" series and "Staggered Worlds" are his most important academic works. In 1976, he received the Pilgrimage Award from the American Science Fiction Research Association; in the same year, the World Science Fiction Annual Meeting awarded him the Special Hugo Award for the Staggered World; and in 2007, the American Science Fiction writers association awarded Gunn the Damon Knight Memorial Master Award at the Nebula Awards ceremony in recognition of his lifetime achievements.

Unfortunately, Mr. James Gunn passed away on 23 December 2020 at the age of 97. On the occasion of the first anniversary of Mr. Gunn's death, Wenjing and the nuclear network jointly launched the audiobook version of "The Staggered World: The History of World Science Fiction Maps", hoping to express the tribute and remembrance of the master.
