The largest dynasty in Chinese history by area was the Yuan Dynasty. China's prosperous dynasty, the Tang Dynasty, can only rank third in the land area in Chinese history. After the Tang Dynasty destroyed the Eastern and Western Turks, the northern territory reached the middle reaches of the Yenisei River in Siberia and the Angara and the river basin, far beyond Lake Baikal, and the west reached as far as the Caspian Sea, including all of Central Asia and Afghanistan. Although conquered, the Tang Dynasty did not rule the Vast Area of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau and the Northeast, so the Tang Dynasty's territory did not have the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau and the Northeast, with a total area of more than 12 million square kilometers, and the total territory was slightly lower than that of the Qing Dynasty.
