According to the British media talkSPORT, Newcastle has made a £25 million offer to Sevilla defender Diego Carlos, but the other side has refused.
Previously, Newcastle identified the 28-year-old defender as their primary target for this month's centre-back signings and offered Sevilla an initial offer of £25m, which was rejected by Sevilla.
It is understood that Newcastle will further increase the offer, but to bring in the player, it may require a transfer fee of up to £40 million.
