In 1991, the voices of independence sounded overnight, and the disintegration of Yugoslavia, which had lasted for decades, was a foregone conclusion, and the dissolution was accompanied by war, of which Croatia and Serbia were the most fiercely fought. Pushing forward a thousand years, the ancestors of these two countries are still the Slavs who went south together, why did their descendants eventually have to fight each other and not hesitate to launch a large-scale war?
Serbia has always been known as the Tiger of the Balkans, but Croatia, which is also inherited from the Slavs, is not much more. As early as 1400 years ago, some of the Slavic people chose to advance to the Balkan Peninsula with the intention of establishing their own state here, and they were later Yugoslavs.
After experiencing war and peace, eventually the Slavs and the indigenous peoples of the Balkans came into contact with each other and developed together, and eventually because of the cultural and regional influences, Croatia and Serbia and Slovenia were divided.
In the beginning, these 3 homologous peoples were not well mixed, and even their own food and clothing problems could not be guaranteed. After 300 years of low-key development, croats were the first to rise, not only establishing their own country in this land, but even posing a threat to the surrounding European powers.
At its peak, Croatia even crushed the French army head-on, snatching large tracts of land from the French. At the same time, it also expanded its territory to the coastal areas of the Balkan Peninsula. In this way, the Croats, by establishing a state, became the "big brother" of the three brothers who were mixed out.
Compared with the Croats, the Serbs still quietly beg for a living in the local area, which makes "Big Brother" quite despised. Even if the Serbs later seized the opportunity to establish their own country, the Croats looked down on this "little brother". In fact, this also laid the groundwork for the later Serb domination of the Yugoslav Federation.
Since then, the trajectory of the two countries has completely transformed croats and Serbs into two peoples, in addition to the linguistic commonality, the living customs and beliefs are completely different. After the establishment of the state, the Serbs met the powerful Ottoman Empire, and in order to ensure their own safety, the Serbs had to accept the rule of the Ottoman Empire.
The Croats, threatened by external enemies, had to join nearby Hungary and, although to a certain extent autonomous, had to accept Hungarian rule. Even so, the Croats did not escape the fate of war, and after the Ottoman Empire attacked Hungary, a large area of territory including Croatia became part of the Ottoman Empire.
Then came a key turning point, the First World War, as a reward for Serbia, which was also the victorious power, and other countries such as Britain and France supported Serbia in taking Croatia and the surrounding countries and establishing a larger state.
However, the Croats are very unhappy with the Serbs, believing that the former "little brother" riding on his head is humiliating to himself. Coupled with the fact that during World War II, under the impetus of Germany, Croats and Serbs attacked each other, and have accumulated quite a lot of blood feuds.
So after Yugoslavia lost its ability to buffer the American and European states with the Soviet Union, this unstable barrel of explosives exploded. And the Croats, who already have a blood feud, and the Serbs are living and dying.
