Zheng Wuchang (1894-1952), known as Chang, was a talented calligraphy and painting artist, activist, art educator, art historian, calligraphy and painting collector and poet during the Republic of China period.
Zheng Wuchang has been involved in many fields, the wide network of art circles, and the great influence of achievements, which is extremely rare in the history of modern culture and art, and has the reputation of "the big man of the maritime painting circle of the Republic of China". His "Complete History of Chinese Painting Studies", which took five years to complete, was the first general history of painting studies, and was praised by the sage Cai Yuanpei as a masterpiece of great achievements since the history of Chinese painting.
Zheng Wuchang is good at landscapes, flowers, figures, calligraphy, poetry, appreciation, etc., he also authored "History of Chinese Art", "Research on the History of Chinese Mural Painting", etc., of which "The Complete History of Chinese Painting", a voluminous volume, a fair argument, is publicly recommended as the pioneering work of the history of modern Chinese painting, the book is prefaced by Huang Binhong, Cai Yuanpei inscription, and called "the great work of China's painting history since the collection of masterpieces". This book has been reprinted in one edition and has a far-reaching impact. Painting advocates self-legislation of the ancients, often saying: "Painting does not let people have me".
Zheng Wuchang's landscape is influenced by Huang Gongwang, Wang Meng, Shi Tao, and Shixi, and there is no mud rope, but self-made paths. His landscape paintings are mainly light, and the green landscapes he has made are subtle with pens, work without boards, set colors and beautiful, and elegant and popular appreciation.
