Hong Kong will host the Basic Law Inter-School Quiz Competition to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the handover

Hong Kong, 5 Jan (Xinhua) -- On 5 January, the Education Bureau of the Hong Kong SAR Government held the "Launching Ceremony and Book Donation Ceremony of the Eighth Basic Law and the Hong Kong Inter-School Quiz Competition celebrating the 25th Anniversary of the Founding of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region" at the headquarters of the HONG Kong SAR Government, and issued a circular letter to primary and secondary schools in Hong Kong to encourage schools and students to actively participate in and promote national education in schools.

To celebrate the 25th anniversary of Hong Kong's return to the motherland, the topics of this year's Q&A competition will increase the development process and achievements of the People's Republic of China since its founding, the relationship between the state and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, and the development of Hong Kong since its return to the motherland, so as to deepen students' understanding of the country and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, understand the constitutional relations, and thus enhance their national concept and national identity.

At the event site, Bauhinia Cultural Group presented a series of study books on the Constitution and basic law, "Navigating the Law", to the Education Bureau of the SAR Government and all primary and secondary schools in Hong Kong, with a total of 10,000 copies. Compiled by authoritative legal and education experts in Hong Kong and the Mainland, this set of books is divided into primary and secondary school editions, covering legal knowledge such as the Constitution and the Basic Law, with rich pictures and texts, which can not only improve the legal literacy of Hong Kong youth, but also provide learning guidance for the Basic Law Inter-school Quiz Competition in Hong Kong.

Wu Baoan, director of Bauhinia Culture Group, said in his speech that the "Navigator of Understanding the Law" will help Primary and Secondary School Students in Hong Kong to correctly understand the relationship between the state and Hong Kong, correctly understand that the Constitution and the Basic Law are the fundamental guarantees for Hong Kong's development, establish a national concept and enhance their identity. It is hoped that the book will become a "navigation manual" for the rule of law education of young people in Hong Kong and contribute to the cultivation of a new generation of patriots in Hong Kong.

As officiating at the event, the Secretary for Education of the HKSAR Government, Mr Yeung Yun-hung, thanked Sanlian Bookstore for continuing to serve as a supporting organization for the quiz competition, and especially thanked Bauhinia Magazine for joining as the supporting organization for the competition. Yang Runxiong said that "Navigating the Law" can be used as a reading material for students to prepare for this year's Q&A competition, and also encourages principals to make good use of it to promote national education in schools.

The Basic Law Inter-School Quiz Competition is divided into Primary and Secondary Schools, and schools can fill in the application form through the Hong Kong Education City website from 10 to 21 January. The preliminary round will be held from 14 to 21 February in the form of an online quiz competition. The final will be held in June, and the first, runner-up and third place winners of the primary and secondary school categories will be selected based on the scores of the schools in the live Q&A session, and two winners of the Merit Award will be selected, and there will be an on-site cheering award. In addition to the quiz competition, "extension activities" will be added this year, such as school-based activities assisted by Basic Law student campus ambassadors.
