Fetal medicine is an emerging discipline, aiming to study the pathophysiology of embryos and fetuses, the diagnosis and treatment of fetal diseases, the purpose is to improve the survival rate and quality of life of the fetus, and lay the foundation for improving the quality of the birth population. The newly established department is composed of medical staff who have been engaged in obstetrics for many years, focusing on the treatment of single chorionic twins, complex double chorionic twins, multiple pregnancies, fetal edema syndrome, fetal hemolytic diseases, fetal anemia, various fetal structural abnormalities, intrauterine growth retardation and preterm birth.
According to Zhang Hanru, director of the Department of Fetal Medicine, the department plans to cooperate with the hospital's prenatal diagnosis center, pediatric surgery, pediatric cardiac surgery and other multi-departments to carry out fetaloscopic laser electrocoagulation, interventional catheterization, umbilical cord electrocoagulation, umbilical cord ligation, radiofrequency ablation, intrauterine blood transfusion, drug treatment and various drainage procedures. Pregnant women can make an appointment for prenatal diagnosis/fetal medicine outpatient clinic through the Gansu Maternal and Child APP, the customer service center of Gansu Provincial Maternal and Child Health Hospital, and the Health Gansu APP. In addition, the Department of Fetal Medicine also undertakes the work of fetal medical referral and remote consultation in the province, and has established a "one-stop" green channel for referral consultation, and midwifery institutions with relevant needs in the province can contact the customer service center of Gansu Provincial Maternal and Child Health Hospital.
