During the Sengoku period in Japan, etiquette collapsed and class order was chaotic; subordinates replaced superiors, usurped the main family separately, courtiers eliminated the masters of the household, and peasants expelled samurai. However, it is very surprising that Mitsuhide Akiko, who launched the "Honnoji Rebellion" and forced Oda Nobunaga to commit suicide by cutting his abdomen, but he has been arguing endlessly about whether he is "Shimo kagami".

In fact, during the development and expansion of Oda Nobunaga, Mitsuhide still made great contributions; for example, he made great merits in the battle against Enriji Temple, and was given the new city of Sakamoto and became the daimyō with 50,000 stone domains. For example, when Ichijo sect launched a rebellion against the Echizen Kingdom, Mitsuhide followed Oda Nobunaga on a campaign and beheaded more than 2,000 members of the Hongan-ji sect, and was enthroned for his merits. In the end, he was able to conquer the kingdom of Tanba and gain the territory of 290,000 stones of Tanba and Kameyama Castle.
As we all know, Oda Nobunaga had five legion commanders under his command, namely Toyotomi Hideyoshi (at that time also Hada Hideyoshi), Shibata Katsuya, Niwa Nagahide, Takikawa Kazumasa, and Wise Mitsuhide (Tokugawa Ieyasu and Oda Nobunaga were allies); it can be said that the commander of these five major armies was Oda Nobunaga's most trusted and trusted five major generals, who made great contributions to Oda Nobunaga's expansion, and they also had a great deal of autonomy. However, Mitsuhide mitsuhide later launched the "Honnoji Rebellion" when Oda Nobunaga was most energetic.
As for why Mitsuhide of The wisdom rebelled and launched the "Honnoji Rebellion", there are many speculations in history, including the royalist theory, the resentment theory, the ambition theory, the Shikoku theory, the uneasiness theory, the emperor theory, and the "black curtain theory", etc. These many statements cannot be said to be all wrong, because none of these things happened so simply; but among these many statements, the "shogunate revival" should be the most trustworthy, why? This starts with the early experience of Wise Mitsuhide.
Mitsuhide's origins are a mystery, but it is recorded that when he grew up, saito Michizo, the overlord of the Mino kingdom, was killed by his son Saito Yoshiryu, mitsuhide did not submit to Saito Yoshiryu, and was attacked by Saito Yoshiryū. Mitsuhide's strength was far inferior to Saito Yoshiryu's, and after his defeat, he fled to Echizen Kingdom and became a member of Asakura Yoshiaki; however, he seemed to be dissatisfied with Asakura Yoshiaki, so he chose to leave, but when he was preparing to leave, he happened to run into Ashikaga Yoshiaki, who came out to ask for help.
Ashikaga Yoshiaki was the younger brother of Ashikaga Yoshiaki, but was driven out by Miyoshi and Matsunaga Hidehisa, who was on his way to Echizen Asakura Yoshiaki, hoping to regain the position of Grand Shogun of Seiyi with the help of Asakura Yoshiaki's power. However, Asakura Yoshiaki refused Ashikaga Yoshiaki's request for lack of strength, and Ashikaga Yoshiaki had no choice but to prepare to go to the Uesugi and Takeda families for help, and in this way, the wise Mitsuhide who was advocating for daiyoshi followed Ashikaga Yoshiaki.
However, both the Uesugi family and the Takeda family at that time rejected Ashikaga Yoshiaki, and just when Ashikaga Yoshiaki was discouraged, Wise Mitsuhide stepped forward and suggested that Ashikaga Yoshiaki go to the newly rising daimyo Oda Nobunaga to try it, because he could see that Oda Nobunaga was ambitious, capable and courageous; Ashikaga Yoshiaki saw that Wise Mitsuhide was so confident, so he agreed to Wise Mitsuhide and asked him to try it. Although Oda Nobunaga is ambitious and courageous, after all, he is young, his qualifications are shallow, and his strength is not much in the face of some big forces, so he is a little timid.
Here we have to admire the eloquence and ability of The Wise Mitsuhide, who actually sketched a strategic blueprint for Oda Nobunaga, saying that Oda Nobunaga was overwhelmed with emotion, and finally agreed to help Ashikaga Yoshiaki regain the position of General of Seiyi. Because of The wisdom of Mitsuhide's outstanding talents, Oda Nobunaga asked Ashikaga Yoshiaki to let Wise Mitsuhide serve in the Oda family as a Ashikaga courtier, which was indeed unusual in the moral view of "loyal subjects and not two masters".
However, in terms of fame, Ashikaga Yoshiaki was the future shogun of Seiyi, so Oda Nobunaga was also a Yoshiaki courtier. Moreover, Ashikaga Yoshiaki urgently needed Nobunaga's help at this moment, so Ashikaga Yoshiaki readily agreed. Ashikaga Yoshiaki agreed, and Mitsuhide could not refuse even if he did not want to, and it was he who "fooled" Oda Nobunaga into sending troops, and he felt that he also had an obligation to help Oda Nobunaga; but in his heart, his lord was Ashikaga Yoshiaki.
However, as Oda Nobunaga's strength gradually increased, his ambitions grew day by day, and he even expelled Ashikaga Yoshiaki; although much of this was caused by Ashikaga Yoshiaki himself, Oda Nobunaga's behavior was still considered to be "rebellious", especially a group of people loyal to the shogun, and Wise Mitsuhide was a typical example. Therefore, many people believe that the reason why Mitsuhide launched the "Honnoji Rebellion" was to kill Oda Nobunaga and then take Back Ashikaga Yoshiaki to continue as a shogun.
It is also because Mitsuhide has never regarded himself as a vassal of Oda Nobunaga, nor has he really been loyal to Oda Nobunaga, he has always regarded himself as a vassal of Ashikaga Yoshiaki, so his behavior is theoretically not "Shimo kagami"; it can even be said that because Oda Nobunaga expelled Ashikaga Nobunaga, he led his troops to kill Oda Nobunaga to avenge the Lord. Unfortunately, he failed because Toyotomi Hideyoshi came too quickly and defeated him quickly, so that he had no chance to welcome Ashikaga Yoshiaki back; but his behavior could still be regarded as "loyal".
