In the 1920s, Zhang Xiaolin was one of the three tycoons of Shanghai Beach, along with Du Yuesheng and Jin Jinrong. Golden Rongjianghu is the oldest qualified, and Zhang Xiaolin has always been able to fight Du Yuesheng, who is lower than his own generation. Although Du Yuesheng was young and had shallow qualifications, he was flexible in his means and good at winning people's hearts, and his prestige and power in the jianghu were increasing day by day. Even some of Zhang Xiaolin's disciples changed their doors and defected to Du Yuesheng. Moreover, Du Yuesheng received more attention and support from Chiang Kai-shek, which made Zhang Xiaolin even more annoyed.

Zhang Xiaolin
In 1937, when the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression broke out in full swing and Shanghai fell, Chiang Kai-shek instructed Du Yuesheng to invite Jin Jinrong and Du Yuesheng to retreat west together. On the grounds that he was old and sick and did not ask about foreign affairs, Jin Rong decided not to leave Shanghai. Zhang Xiaolin was even more aware of the opportunity to dominate the beach, and also rejected Du Yuesheng, and began to contact the Japanese. The Japanese side even took a fancy to The Shanghai Beach tycoon Zhang Xiaolin early. The two sides hit it off, and Zhang Xiaolin fell into the water and became a traitor.
Zhang Xiaolin and Du Yuesheng
Zhang Xiaolin first organized the New Asia Peace Promotion Association and used the jianghu forces to supply rice, cotton, coal and other military materials to the Japanese army. Zhang Xiaolin not only guaranteed the supply of military supplies for the Japanese army, but also took the opportunity to make a fortune for the country. The Japanese army was very satisfied with Zhang Xiaolin's performance. At the end of 1939, the pseudo-Zhejiang Provincial Government was prepared to be established, and Zhang Xiaolin was ready to become the governor of pseudo-Zhejiang Province.
Chiang Kai-shek hated this very much and ordered Dai Kasa to assassinate Zhang Xiaolin. Dai Kasa began to contact Du Yuesheng at this point. Du Yuesheng said that he and Zhang Xiaolin were brothers in arms, and on the surface they could not intervene in the assassination of Zhang Xiaolin. In fact, Du Yuesheng was also quite jealous of Zhang Xiaolin, and secretly let his protégé cooperate with the military command and lurk in Shanghai to prepare to assassinate Zhang Xiaolin.
From 1938 to 1939, the military command launched two assassinations against Zhang Xiaolin in Shanghai Beach. Once at the intersection of Shanghai Foch Road and Fu fu road, once in the renewal of the stage box, are only one step away from success. Zhang Xiaolin hated and feared, hid in his home all day, and arranged a large number of bodyguards and armed guards around the house. But Zhang Xiaolin did not expect that the military commander also arranged a dark line in his home, which was Zhang Xiaolin's bodyguard Lin Huaibu.
Lin Huaibu was a disciple of Du Yuesheng and secretly joined the military command. When Zhang Xiaolin was repeatedly assassinated and looked for a sharpshooter as a bodyguard, Lin Huaibu took the opportunity to use his connections to blend in and became Zhang Xiaolin's bodyguard. Lin Huaibu tried to assassinate the Zhang family several times, but he could not find the opportunity. Finally, on August 14, 1940, the opportunity came. On this day, Lin Huaibu intended to take leave, Zhang Xiaolin had a bad temper at that time, not only was he not allowed, but he also scolded Lin Huaibu and threatened to drive Lin Huaibu away. Just at this time, Zhang Xiaolin's friends came to visit, and Zhang Xiaolin went to the third floor to discuss with his friends and put Lin Huaibu aside.
Lin Huaibu deliberately went downstairs and quarreled with Zhang Xiaolin's car driver. The sound reached the upper floor, and Zhang Xiaolin heard the anger, stuck his head out of the window from the upper floor, and scolded Lin Huaibu in a loud voice. Lin Huaibu had long been ready, and when he saw Zhang Xiaolin sticking his head out of the window, he pulled out a pistol on the spot and fired two shots at it in a row. Both bullets hit Zhang Xiaolin in the head, and Zhang Xiaolin was killed on the spot. Lin Huaibu calmly went upstairs with a gun and shot another shot at Zhang Xiaolin's body in the pool of blood.
The sound of gunfire alarmed all around, and the Zhang family's bodyguards and nearby patrols immediately surrounded Lin Huaibu. Lin Huaibu tried to commit suicide by pointing his pistol at his temple, but was unsuccessful. After his arrest, Lin Huaibu was imprisoned by the French Concession until the end of the War of Resistance.
As for Du Yuesheng, when he heard the news of Zhang Xiaolin's death in Hong Kong, although he was happy in his heart, he still showed regret on the surface: "Mr. Zhang wants to be a traitor, and his death is of course deserved." However, I knew in my heart that this was done by Lin Huaibu, who was sent by the military commanders. My apprentice killed my old brother, and I really can't stand up to the righteousness of the jianghu. "But no matter what, Zhang Xiaolin's death is a good thing for Du Yuesheng and Chongqing, and for the great righteousness of the family and the country."
