Founded in 1921, the International Equestrian Federation (FEI) is the governing body of equestrian sports in the world, an official organization certified by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the only official governing body for international equestrian events.

At the beginning of its establishment, the headquarters were located in Brussels, Belgium, until the 1970s, when it moved to Bern, Switzerland. In 1991, THE INTERNATIONAL UNION MOVED ITS HEADQUARTERS TO LAUSANNE. In 2011, the HM King Hussein I, now located next to the Délices metro station in Lausanne, was officially opened. The building is a gift from HRH Princess Haya of Jordan, the former president of the International Federation of Malaysia. The building was completely renovated according to switzerland's "Mini Energy Standard" (MINERGIE), reducing energy consumption by 25 percent. At that time, only 2% of renovated buildings in Switzerland met this environmental responsibility standard.

FIA began a year-long celebration of its centenary in May 2021 and invited award-winning French graffiti artist Ludovilk Myers to redecorate the white horse sculpture on the outside of the ITMA headquarters building in Lausanne, turning it into a one-of-a-kind urban work of art. The Délices metro station in Lausanne, where the HEADQUARTERS of the International Horse Federation is located, also uses the hissing of horses to match the station name.
