Liao Shengzong was followed by LiaoXingzong. Emperor Xingzong of Liao was the eldest son of Emperor Shengzong of Liao, and his mother was Concubine Xiao Yunjin, but he was raised by Emperor Shengzong of Liao's empress Qi Tianhou. After Emperor Xingzong of Liao succeeded to the throne, his biological mother, Princess Yuan, became regent, first establishing herself as empress dowager, and then plotting to execute Qi Tianhou. A series of moves by the Yuan Concubine made his son Liao Xingzong more and more dissatisfied, and the relationship between the two became more and more tense. Because the relationship with her eldest son was getting worse and worse, and the two were relatively estranged, coupled with the increasing desire for power of the Yuan Concubines, she was worried that after Emperor Xingzong of Liao's pro-government, she would lose her power, so she planned to depose Emperor Liaoxingzong and establish her younger son Yelü Chongyuan as emperor.
