2022 FIMA International Championships Outlook: The World Equestrian Games transform into the World Championships

2022 is poised to be another exciting year for equestrian sports, and we can expect many top global and regional competitions.

2022 FIMA International Championships Outlook: The World Equestrian Games transform into the World Championships

The biggest event is, of course, the 2022 FIMA World Championships. Until 2018, the top equestrian event was held in the form of the World Equestrian Games (WEG), which is held every four years, with seven equestrian events coming together. From 2022 onwards, WEG will continue to be held in the form of the World Championships, and different equestrian events may be held at different times and in different locations.

The World Championships in Dressage, Dressage for the Disabled, Obstacle Course and Horseback Gymnastics will be held in Herning, Denmark, from 6 to 14 August 2022, where athletes will fight for the world championship title. Can German female riders Simone Blum and Isabell Werth successfully defend their track obstacle course and dressage titles at the 2018 Tryon World Equestrian Games in the United States?

Let's relive Bloom's victory round performance four years ago:

It is estimated that 200,000 spectators will come to the game, in addition to 200 million TV viewers from all over the world. Around 800 horses from 70 countries will meet at the World Championships in Herning, Denmark, for an exciting 9-day race.

The 2022 FIR Triathlon and Carriage World Championships will take place from 14 to 25 September in Pratoni del Vivaro, near Rome. It was the site of the 1960 Olympic Games and the 1998 FIMA World Equestrian Games.

The first three world championships were held. After winning three team gold medals at the 2018 World Equestrian Games, the British team was crowned team champions at the Tokyo Olympics and European Championships. The Triathlon World Championships will challenge the defending champions. Australian driver Boyd Exell will defend his world title at the World Carriage Race World Championships after three world championships, while the United States hopes to write glory after winning the gold medal on home soil four years ago.

The 2022 FIMA World Endurance Championships will also take place in Italy on 22 October, but not in Platoni, but on The Isola della Scala in Verona.

In September 2022, the quadrennial Asian Games will be held in Hangzhou, China. At that time, we will see the highest level of equestrian competition in Asia, and the Chinese team will send people and horses to participate in all three events: obstacle course, dressage and triathlon. Can the Chinese steeplechase and dressage teams, which both achieved the best in Asia at the Tokyo Olympics, win the Asian Games podium in front of local audiences?

While we can already look forward to those major international events in the second half of the year, there will also be a lot of top-level competitions in the coming months.

2022 FIMA International Championships Outlook: The World Equestrian Games transform into the World Championships

The FIMA Club Steeplechase World Cup will be struck again in January. Bordeaux, France, will host the final leg of the 2021-22 FIM Carriage Racing World Cup in early February.

The FIMA Steeplechase World Cup Finals, Dressage World Cup Finals, Carriage Racing World Cup Finals, and Horseback Gymnastics World Cup Finals will be held in Leipzig, Germany, from 6 to 10 April. It will be an equestrian feast that lasts five days!

We can also look forward to the FIMA National Cup in Steeplechase, the Dressage National Cup and the Triathlon Nations Cup series.

The opening match for the new season of the FIMA Club National Cup of Venue Obstacles will be played on January 23 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, when teams from the Middle East will strive for points. Coapexpan, Mexico, will host the first match of the North American/Central American and Caribbean League in March, followed by the European Division A match in St Gallen, Switzerland, in June.

The FIM Steeplechase Nations Cup Finals will be staged again in Barcelona, Spain, in early October, with the Netherlands in attendance as the defending champions.

The first leg of this year's FIR Triathlon Nations Cup will be held in Pratoni, Italy, in May, and the series will include a total of 10 races including the season final in Boekelo, the Netherlands, in October.

The FIMA Dressage National Cup series will take place from March to July, culminating in the summer at the Falsterbo race in Sweden.

We can't wait to watch top events from all equestrian events and around the world on FEI TV!
