During the War of Liberation, in early June 1946, Chiang Kai-shek, disregarding the aspirations of everyone in the whole country for peace, launched a full-scale civil war, aiming his gun at the Central Plains Military Region of our army.
At that time, the Central Plains Military Region only had more than 60,000 troops, and the Kuomintang dispatched about 220,000 people, with Xuanhuadian in Hubei Dawu as the center, forming a large encirclement of the Central Plains Military Region, and 400,000 soldiers and civilians were surrounded by Kuomintang heavy troops in a narrow strip of less than 100 miles.
The situation can be said to be extremely critical, and in order to ensure that the main force is not destroyed, the Central Plains Military Region has no choice but to adopt the strategy of "losing the car to protect the marshal" and breaking the wrists of the brave soldiers, which is a common strategy for victory in the art of war, and it is a strategic abandonment, with the purpose of preserving the overall situation.
At that time, Pi Dingjun was the commander of the 1st Brigade of the Central Plains Military Region, with more than 7,000 troops, and he led his troops to cover the main force to break through to the west, and after the main force retreated, he then led his troops to pretend to be the main force and marched eastward, in order to contain the pursuing troops who confused the enemy and buy time for the main force to jump out of the enemy's encirclement.

Pi Dingjun first led his troops to launch a blockade on the spot, engaged with 100,000 enemy troops, fiercely fought for three days and three nights, and on the night of the third day, when heavy rain fell from the sky, Pi Dingjun used the torrential rain to launch a counter-charge, so that the enemy did not dare to move, and then withdrew and retreated, running wildly on the rainy night.
However, if it is not easy to retreat from the eyes of 220,000 enemies, Pi Dingjun led his troops to the three provinces of Eyu and Anhui, which lasted 24 days, during which 23 large and small battles occurred, basically one battle per day, and the journey reached more than 1,000 kilometers, which means that it is necessary to march while fighting.
These were carried out without backup and no supplies, and as a result, Pi Dingjun miraculously jumped out of the enemy's encirclement, and in addition to more than 2,000 people who were killed, scattered, and lost, more than 5,000 people returned to the Suwan Liberated Area in victory, and such a battle achievement can be said to be unique.
Unfortunately, in 1976, when he was the commander of fuzhou, on July 7, when he was directing the military exercise, the helicopter he was riding on was on the site of the exercise on Dongshan Island, and the plane unfortunately crashed on the zao mountain in Zhangpu County.
Pi Dingjun was killed at the age of 62, and after his death, his ashes were buried in Babaoshan, but what was unexpected was that 15 years later, his wife, in charge of respecting the request of the people of western Henan, agreed to remove Pi Dingjun's ashes from Babaoshan, part of which was buried in the Dengfeng Martyrs' Cemetery and part of which was buried in the place where the plane crashed that year.
