The 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics will open in one month, and the venue for the 2030 Winter Olympics is also expected to be finalized this year. According to Japan's Kyodo News Agency, a number of relevant people expect that the International Olympic Committee will lock in the 2030 Winter Olympics candidate cities around this summer to winter, and Sapporo, Japan, is regarded as a big hit.

Sapporo, Japan, successfully hosted the Winter Olympics in 1972 and was the first city in Asia to host the Winter Olympics. Now that bids to host the 2030 Winter Olympics, it is crucial to gain the support of local residents. On November 29 last year, the Sapporo City Government announced a plan to revise the outline plan for the Winter Olympics, which aims to reduce the cost of hosting the Winter Olympics by 90 billion yen and the total cost to 280 billion to 300 billion yen (15.72 billion to 16.84 billion yuan).
In view of the cooling enthusiasm for the Olympic bid in recent years, the 2019 IOC revised the mechanism for selecting the host site, revoking the regulations that in principle the venue was finalized seven years ago. In the new model, the IOC set up a "Committee of Hosts of the Olympic Games" to talk with candidate cities that have shown interest and finalize the cities as early as possible in case of worries. As a result, Brisbane, Australia, officially became the host city of the 2032 Summer Olympics in July 2021.
Japan successfully hosted the Tokyo Summer Olympics last summer and is expected to open nine years later. It is reported that in addition to Sapporo, Japan, Salt Lake City in the United States, Vancouver in Canada, Pyrenees and Barcelona in Spain, and Ukraine are also interested in bidding for the 2030 Winter Olympics. Salt Lake City and Vancouver have also hosted the Winter Olympics.
The 2026 Winter Olympics will be held in Milan, Italy, Cortina d'Ampezzo.
