Spanning 35 years of restoration, the newly excavated fragments of Sanxingdui may be able to be spliced with the 86-year-old sacred tree

Recently, in the process of archaeological excavations in Sanxingdui, archaeologists have found some fragments of bronze sacred trees in pits 7 and 8, and these fragments may be spliced together with the bronze sacred trees excavated in 1986, and the sacred trees unearthed in 1986 may be restored and perfected again 35 years later.

According to CCTV, the fragments of these bronze sacred trees were found on the southern edge of Pit 7, on which the flowers and fruits are vivid, and there is a phoenix standing on the branches, and a fragment of a sacred bird has been excavated on the southern edge of Pit 8, and the form of these fragments is highly similar to the bronze sacred tree excavated in 1986.

In 1986, the Shang Bronze Sacred Tree was excavated in the No. 2 Sacrifice Pit at the Sanxingdui Site in Guanghan City, Sichuan Province, which is a national first-class cultural relic, and the highly complete and restored Sacred Tree named No. 1 Sacred Tree, with a height of 395 centimeters, is the largest single bronze cultural relics that have been found in the world. The No. 2 sacred tree excavated in the same year only has the lower part of the tree, the upper part is mutilated, and the third small sacred tree cannot be further repaired because of serious defects. The fragments of this batch of bronze sacred trees excavated at the end of December are likely to belong to a part of the bronze sacred trees excavated in 1986. In April this year, the No. 3 Sacred Tree began the restoration work, and the new batch of fragments on the Sanxingdui may be able to make the No. 2 and No. 3 Sacred Trees "break the mirror and re-round".

In fact, a total of 6 bronze sacred trees were unearthed from the Sanxingdui site, the most complete of which is the No. 1 sacred tree excavated from the No. 2 sacrifice pit, which is also the most familiar to us, with a total of 2479 fragments when it was excavated, and after ten years of hard work, it appeared in our familiar form. These bronze sacred trees have been artificially crushed, flattened, burned before being buried as sacrifices, and finally buried in the sacrificial pit, so when these parts are unearthed, most of them have been seriously distorted and deformed, broken, and brought great difficulties to the restoration of the sacred trees. The No. 1 bronze sacred tree that took ten years to finally be spliced together is the most complete one at present, but it is also in a broken state, its top is missing, and all we see is the trunk, part of the branches and the base, and its complete height should be about five meters.

What makes the public most curious is that the newly excavated fragments and the fragments unearthed in 86 are not from the same sacrifice pit, so some people have put forward bold conjectures, the burial of these bronze sacred trees is not a matter of one day or two days, but after a period of time, these trees were broken after the centralized sacrifice and were buried in different sacrifice pits in the following days, and from the current excavation of the sacrifice pit, a large part of the national wealth of the ancient Shu state was directly buried into the sacrifice pit, which also triggered people's reverie. Did a major historical event or change occur in the ancient Shu kingdom at that time, causing a large amount of national wealth to be buried in a concentrated manner, and was this event related to the eventual demise of the ancient Shu state? We also hope that the newly unearthed fragments will make this "super puzzle" project spanning nearly forty years further, and also bring us closer to the mysterious ancient Shu country.
