CRUZ: It would be an honor for me to play against Aldo

UFC China – After beating Pedro Munhoz in UFC 269, former UFC welterweight champion Dominick Cruz has moved up to 7th. Although his opponents for the next match have no eyebrows, Cruze said in a recent interview that it would be a great honor for him to play against former welterweight champion Jose Aldo.

"I've heard a lot of people talking about my showdown with Aldo, it's going to be a battle between two legendary veterans, but nothing has been finalized yet, and I haven't heard UFC tournament planner Sean Shelby talk about it." Cruz said. "I totally understand why people want this match to happen, it's a showdown that the whole world is interested in. It would be an honor to play with Aldo in an octagonal cage. ”

Cruze and Aldo came to UFC in 2010 with the acquisition of WEC, when they were wec's youngweight and featherweight champions, and both set consecutive defending records at the peak of their respective careers that were difficult to surpass. But because the two were in different orders of magnitude at the time, the dream duel between them was never mentioned. With Aldo downgrading to featherweight and hitting the 3rd high ranking, it now seems to be the best time to make this showdown a reality.

"Think about what Aldo has done for the sport, he's gone through a career trial and he's back to the top now, so I can understand how much people expect from this game. Now what we need to do is sit down and talk about the specifics and see exactly how this focus showdown can be made. But you know me, I never pick an opponent, I just do what I have to do on the pitch. Throughout my career, I've been called out to me, and I've always had people comparing my resume to others. ”

"But I've never been influenced by a voice like this, and I make the most right decision for myself and move forward in my own way." So now I'm not going to rush into a decision because of outside voices, we need to sit down and think about what to do next. ”

Cruze, who has lost a lot of his career prime due to consecutive injuries, has had to give up the UFC welterweight title as a result, and 2021 is the first time since 2016 that he has played two games in a year. Cruz said he only had an effective bruise in his foot in UFC 269 and no other injuries, so he had returned to the boxing gym to train before the New Year arrived.

Despite beating Casey Kenney and Pedro Muñoz in a row during the year, Cruz knew he still had no chance of winning the title in 2022. In addition, the 36-year-old Cruz knows that he has little time left in his career, so he plans to make the most of every day ahead.

"I quit my job when I won the WEC WeC werderweight title in 2010, when I was paid $20 for a class to teach martial arts, and I was probably only earning $1,000 a month between I became world champions. And now I don't put my whole life into fighting, I have a full-time job, I train while working, which is a very different way of life than before. ”

"I never thought I'd do more work as I got older, especially when you were a fighting champion and your idea was to stop working and be a full-time fighter, and I thought the same thing. But in fact, this lifestyle didn't work out for me, so I'm now working more. But I'm still focused on my career, trying to make my peak as long as possible and to win more races at my best.
