It's official: Southampton defender McQueen, 26, chose to retire due to injury

According to the news released by the official website of the Premier League Southampton, the club's 26-year-old defender Sam McQueen chose to retire due to injury.

McQueen joined Southampton Club training camp at the age of 8 as a left-back or left-centre-midfielder and was selected for england's Under-21 youth team. In october 2018, during the English League Cup match between Crystal Palace and Middlesbrough (when McQueen was loaned to Middlesbrough by Southampton), McQueen ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee, and after more than three years of treatment but unable to fully recover, he now has to choose to retire at the age of 26.

McQueen said: "It was a very difficult decision and I very much wanted to play again but I had to make the right choice for me and my family. In the future I can do whatever I want, and I am open to my new life and look forward to it. ”

Southampton would like to express his heartfelt thanks to McQuay for his dedication to the club and wish him all the best for the future.
