Huang Peiliang, Deputy Director of Wenzhou Museum: "Star Scout" for Excavating Cultural Heritage

Wenzhou Network News From the haunting chishang floor to the Southern Opera Museum where the sound of singing and opera rises and falls; from the memorial hall of the literary giant Zheng Zhenduo, to the Wenzhou Mathematical Hall of Fame, the research punch-in point; from the Dong'ou National History Exhibition Hall that records the historical memory of Dong'ou, to the exhibition hall of Wenzhou Keju Examination Institute...

The urban cultural exhibition halls familiar to these citizens embody the painstaking efforts of Huang Peiliang, deputy director of the Wenzhou Museum (Wenzhou Cultural Relics Protection and Archaeology Institute).

Huang Peiliang has been engaged in the protection of immovable cultural relics for more than 20 years, and every year he spends 2/3 of his time in the countryside, wearing 3 pairs of sneakers every year. Visiting and exploring, applying for the list, repairing and protecting, one after another ancient buildings covered with historical dust, under the efforts of him and his team, they were carefully groomed and reappeared.

At present, there are more than 100 cultural protection workers in the city guarding the memory of the city's cultural context. Under their protection and the attention of the Municipal Party Committee and municipal government, since the "Twelfth Five-Year Plan", Wenzhou has invested a total of 500 million yuan in vacated resettlement and maintenance funds, and implemented more than 30 protection and maintenance projects for cultural security units at all levels such as Xia Nai's former residence and Canghe Lane Golden House, with a repair area of more than 30,000 square meters.

Caused by love, high-paid white-collar workers turned to sit on the "cold bench"

Unwritten "rules": Cultural preservation workers cannot collect cultural relics

Jackets, sneakers, this is Huang Peiliang's daily attire. Because he may receive survey tasks at any time, Huang Peiliang is accustomed to carrying a tape measure and a rangefinder in his pocket.

As a cultural protection worker, more time, Huang Peiliang is in the outdoor survey. Every time you go to a cultural protection point, you must visit and investigate the surrounding environment, understand the preservation of cultural relics, history, etc., survey and map, take photos, and record them in the register; investigate the unique attributes, declare the level of cultural protection, and classify management; some subsequent cultural protection points also need to carry out program review, repair docking, supervision of projects, completion acceptance, etc.

In his spare time, Huang Peiliang also edited and completed the "Wenzhou Modern Architecture" and "Wenzhou Ancient Residences" in the Wenzhou Sanpu series.

"We have a lot of uncertainty during working hours, such as suddenly finding a cultural protection point in the village, let's go to see and identify it." Writing requires a certain amount of time to be undisturbed, so if you write personally, you use the night and weekend time. Huang Peiliang said.

Working hours against Wen Bao, spare time can not open their eyes, Huang Peiliang said that this is his interest and hobby.

In 1998, Huang Peiliang, who graduated from Wenzhou University majoring in housing construction engineering, chose to go to the Wenzhou Municipal Cultural Relics Management Office different from his college classmates who chose to go to the high-paying housing and construction companies.

"I like to delve into artifacts, no artifact is exactly the same. Every day I see and touch, there are different faces, which is very interesting. From the perspective of cultural relics architecture, each owner has his own ideas about the design of his private house, from which he can see the owner's aesthetic taste and deeply understand the back of the cultural relics, this process is like solving a puzzle. Huang Peiliang said.

When the Municipal Institute of Cultural Relics Protection and Archaeology was established in 2002, he was the only cultural security worker specializing in immovable cultural relics.

To our surprise, we have a professional vision and deal with cultural relics every day, but there is an unwritten rule in the industry: cultural relics workers cannot collect cultural relics.

"This is the initiative of Zheng Zhenduo, the first director of China's Cultural Relics Bureau and a wenzhou township sage. Otherwise, even if it is a cultural relics that you personally bought and collected, there is also the suspicion of 'taking the sheep by the hand', which is also to avoid suspicion. Huang Peiliang introduced.

In 1 year, more than 800 historical buildings were surveyed

Historical and cultural treasures helped to create the cultural capital of East Asia

In 2013, Huang Peiliang received the task of creating a historical city office in the city to investigate the historical buildings in Wenzhou. After spending more than a year surveying more than 800 buildings, he and his team announced and listed the first batch of 83 historical buildings in Wenzhou in 2014. In 2019, Wenzhou announced and listed the second batch of historical buildings, a total of 178. The published list is also based on previous thorough investigations.

In Huang Peiliang's view, the most emblematic of the old Wenzhou style is precisely these historical heritage, "they are equivalent to living fossils, the city at that time intact to preserve the appearance of the city." Huang Peiliang said.

After the list was announced, Huang Peiliang also participated in the renovation of historical buildings. In the early years, the artificial destruction at the grass-roots level always made Huang Peiliang feel painful, and now with the attention of local governments, including the successful development of Wuma Street and Zen Street in the historical and cultural districts, the awareness of cultural protection in various places has been continuously strengthened, cultural relics have come alive, parent-child study activities have become the norm, and the concept of promoting tourism with culture has become a consensus, which has also made Huang Peiliang's later repair and protection work more smooth.

Historical buildings of such a size are the historical and cultural treasures of Wenzhou, and also help Wenzhou successfully win the honors of "National Historical and Cultural City", "National Public Cultural Service System Demonstration Area Creation City" and "East Asian Cultural Capital".

"Pat the table" with the construction unit

Bring your own dry food to hike the Alum Trail

The Wenzhou Mathematical Hall of Fame is organized by the ancestral residence of the famous mathematician Gu Chaohao. In 2006, gao Yingli was relocated to Nantang as a whole, and Huang Peiliang participated from beginning to end.

In order to approach and restore the style of the valley house, Huang Peiliang took the initiative to contact the descendants of the Gu family to understand the original layout of the building and the placement and orientation of each object.

These behind-the-scenes processes are not well known, so why bother? "Immovable cultural relics are vital, every arrangement in those years was exquisite and had a reason, only fine restoration, there will be a sense of 'living', there is a sense of natural harmony." Huang Peiliang said.

Touched by the sincerity and seriousness of Huang Peiliang and other cultural security workers, the descendants of the Gu family in Shanghai later donated a set of desk supplies that Gu Chaohao had used.

Huang Peiliang also has a work content that supervises and manages the repair of immovable cultural relics.

The exterior wall of the Mathematical Hall of Fame adopts a clear water brick structure, and when supervising the work, Huang Peiliang found that the construction process was not standardized. At that time, more than half of the construction was already built, and the construction party did not want to rework. Huang Peiliang was so angry that he slapped the table, and at Huang Peiliang's insistence, the construction party finally reworked.

In addition to being careful, cultural security workers also have a good physique. Survey the four ancient roads in Cangnan province, scattered between the ancient bridges, ancient pavilions, ancient trees, ancient houses, ancient inscriptions, the mountain and that mountain, this village and that village between the ancient road into a line, can only be measured on foot. Huang Peiliang and his colleagues brought their own dry food, walked on crutches, and climbed for a day.

Excavate the carrier of urban aesthetic aesthetic education

Only by knowing the way forward can we know the direction of the future

The interesting and fun-sounding exploration of the "Taobao" tour, in fact, there are many security risks: when the ancient tomb of the robbery cave was found to be measured, Huang Peiliang accidentally fell into the robbery cave, fortunately there was no major obstacle; in order to observe closely, he always kept climbing up and down, and the old house was in danger of collapsing at any time; on the messy ground, sharp nails even stabbed through the entire soles of the foot...

How do these immovable artifacts found and excavated have an impact on the people? How does the work of Huang Peiliang and his colleagues affect the lives of ordinary people?

"Who are we, where do we come from, and what path have we traveled?" Huang Peiliang said, "Only by knowing the way to come can we know the direction of the future." Our excavation of 'living fossils' is not only the carrier of building urban aesthetic aesthetic education, but also allows us to understand and understand the history of the city in which we live, perceive the historical context, and know our future direction. ”

According to statistics, there are 33 state-level cultural security units, 111 provincial-level cultural security units, 740 municipal (county) cultural security units, and 9362 registered cultural relics in Wenzhou. Among them, there are 5 state-level cultural security units, 31 provincial-level cultural security units, 9 provincial-level historical and cultural blocks (famous villages), and 175 municipal (district) cultural security units at the municipal level.

These cultural treasures, which contain historical information and cultural genes, are scattered on the land of Ouyue and stretch through the years. These non-renewable and irreplaceable precious resources inject a strong spiritual impetus into the children of Ouyue.
