The so-called "hammer finger" is a deformity of the knuckles caused by trauma, which generally occurs in the first knuckle of the index or middle finger.

The children who have "hammer fingers" are basically boys, mostly 8-10 years old, most of them are caused by trauma during exercise.

10-year-old Xiaowen is in the fourth grade of primary school and usually likes sports. More than a month ago, he and his classmates were playing basketball at school, and when they played the ball, they accidentally bumped the fingers of their right hand into the ball, and at that time, they gritted their teeth in pain, and soon the middle finger of his right hand swelled up, and the first knuckle could not be straightened.

When playing ball, the finger bumped and was injured, commonly known as "eating dried radish", at the beginning, Xiaowen did not care too much, thinking that as long as the fingers slowly faded, it would be fine. But after more than a month, the first knuckle of his middle finger was still not straight, so he realized the seriousness of the problem and went to Zhejiang University Children's Hospital accompanied by his mother.

After the examination of Chief Physician Zhao Guoqiang, he found that Xiaowen's first knuckle tendon of his right hand was ruptured, which is medically called "hammer finger deformity", like this, if you intervene in the early stage, there is still a chance of conservative treatment through braces or plaster, the later you drag it out, the less likely you are to recover on your own. Like Xiao Wen, who has been separated for more than a month, it has basically been "fixed", and can only be operated to open a small opening with a diameter of about 1 cm at the injured site, to repair the broken tendon tissue and restore the finger to its active function.

Xiao Wen and his mother couldn't help but be a little surprised when they heard the result. It was just a small injury when playing ball, and there was no skin breakage and bleeding, and I didn't expect the consequences to be so serious.

"We often encounter children whose hammer fingers are caused by sports, the most common of which is basketball, volleyball and other ball sports caused by injuries." Zhao Guoqiang said that in fact, many parents and children have such a thought, thinking that this small injury does not hinder things, and it is good to reduce the swelling. In fact, children's bones are not fully developed, bone tissue, ligaments, tendons and other tissues are still relatively "tender", and the probability of tendon rupture and fracture when encountering trauma is relatively high.

In addition to the hammer fingers caused by exercise, some children are angry with their parents, unable to control their emotions during quarrels, punching and kicking, and injuring themselves as a result. "Two days ago, we met two such children, both boys in the third and fourth grades of primary school, quarreling with their parents because of the contradiction of writing homework, and as a result, one of them injured the index finger of his right hand with a hand hammer table, and the other kicked the door with his foot, and injured his left foot and thumb."

With the winter break approaching, children's opportunities to participate in sports increase, and the probability of accidents increases accordingly.

Zhao Guoqiang reminded that parents and children should pay attention, do not think that the finger is only a little injured to cause redness and swelling, just think that the problem is not big, can not be dealt with. If the child is injured after 2-3 days, the redness and swelling have not subsided, or the fingers still cannot be straightened, it is necessary to pay attention to it, go to the hospital in time, and treat it as soon as possible. "In the early days, through conservative treatment methods, such as brace fixation or plaster casts, the broken tendons can be repaired back, and if it is long, it will not be able to recover on its own."
