The Sanxingdui Sacrifice Area recently announced the results of the latest stage of archaeological excavations. Inside the sacrificial pit No. 6, archaeologists found a jade knife.
The jade knife is 22 cm long, 3.4 cm wide and has a blade thickness of 160 microns. Interestingly, this jade knife is not only sharp, but its shape and size are very similar to the common Western food knives today. There is also a small decoration similar to the dorsal fin of the fish on the back of the knife, which is a masterpiece among the Three Star Pile jade.
So, is this jade knife only a sacrificial object or has other functions? According to reports, in May this year, the relevant personnel analyzed and tested the soil sample at the bottom of pit 6 and found a silk protein signal, which proved that there may be silk buried in pit 6 before. Since then, they have excavated the jade knife from Pit 6, conducted microscopic observation and archaeological research, and conducted microscopic observation of the surface of the jade knife, and found that the surface and blade of the jade knife have more obvious traces of use, and there are traces of potholes on the blade, which confirms that the jade knife may be a practical instrument. After combining relevant literature research, it can be preliminarily concluded that this jade knife may be an important component of the textile machine is the weft knife.
Some experts believe that if the role of the jade knife can be determined, it will have a positive effect on understanding the nature of pit 6.
