Because of the implementation of the Penghu Reform Law, the relationship between Tan Sitong and his father has been very deadlocked, and the two often quarrel, as an old man who has received traditional education and benefited from the dissemination of education, and has also spread traditional ideas for others for decades, it is unlikely to accept the invasion of new ideas. The elderly only want to be able to spend their old age safely in their lifetime, which is also the common idea of many conservatives.
Tan Jixun not only disapproved of what his son had done, he was repulsive to all the people or things related to new ideas at that time. At that time, there were even counselors who impeached him for this matter, saying that Tan Jixun was good everywhere, that is, he was too unable to accept new things, could not see the new situation and the new era, and just blindly kept the old, which was not conducive to the development of our country.
Zhang Zhidong also provoked Tan Jixun's displeasure because of the integration and exchange of Chinese and Western cultures, so every time Zhang Zhidong asked Tan Jixun, he would be rejected. However, as a subordinate of Zhang Zhidong, there are many things that cannot be resisted, so there are many disagreements between the two, and the ideological concepts of the two are completely different, Tan Jixun is bent on self-security, and Zhang Zhidong always wants to promote development and change.
However, as Tan Jixun's son, Tan Sitong's thinking was not influenced by his father, but the more Tan Jixun disciplined, the faster Tan Sitong's actions became. Eventually, the Change of Law threatened the immediate interests of most of the conservatives, and Empress Dowager Cixi finally ordered their beheading. Before he was killed, it was not that he had no friends to let him flee abroad like everyone else, but Tan Si and Zheng Zheng had an iron bone, leaving a sentence that people in all countries will die when they undergo changes, and today it is me.
In the face of his son's tragic ending, Tan Jixun did not do anything for his son, or even said a word of intercession for his son, he seemed to have known that his son would suffer this, so he chose to face this ending calmly. When his son first organized the change, he added more resistance, but there was no substantial impact, so in his opinion, the son's end was self-inflicted.
And zhang zhidong dared to be the first person, and when he faced this ending, he made a completely different response from Tan Jixun. He dared to speak to Empress Dowager Cixi and wanted to gain a way to live for his students, but it may be that he interceded too late, or perhaps the attitude of the conservative faction was too resolute, resulting in Tan Si and others eventually dying here.
