Zhao Yi mentioned in the "Oubei Poetry" that when Bai Juyi was degraded to Jiujiang, he passed through Ezhou (Wuhan) and once met a singer who also wrote a poem at that time.
This poem is very similar to the "Pipa Line" that later circulated in the world, similar to the prelude to the "Pipa Line". However, many people have not paid attention to this poem.
1. Ezhou Singer
Zhao Yi'oubei poem reads:
"Pipa Line" is also a masterpiece. ....... However, in Ezhou, there is another cloud of "The Night Singer": the song is followed by crying, and the crying is repeated. Looking for the voice to see its people, there are women with faces like snow. By asking whose housewife, why is the song and weeping? A question and a dip, a low brow finally did not say. Then it is not strange to hear songs and find people, and there are things that are easy.
In June of the tenth year of Yuan He (815), a major incident occurred in Chang'an, and the chancellor Wu Yuanheng was assassinated in the street. Bai Juyi, 44, was considered to be overstepping his duties because of his above-mentioned advocacy of strictly arresting the murderer and angering the powerful. Later, Bai Juyi was found to reason to be demoted sima of Jiangzhou (江州, in modern Jiujiang, Jiangxi).
From Chang'an to Jiujiang, when Bai Juyi passed through Wuhan, he parked at Night Parrot Island, and heard a burst of songs on the night of the moon. Bai Juyi went away looking for a voice and met a singer.
In the Song Ren Hongmai's "Three Strokes of Rong Zhai", it is specifically mentioned that:
There is also a title cloud night singer, who is from the capital city of Xunyang, staying in Ezhou, and before the pipa.
Chen Hongchang hated Chuanxuyun: "Lotte is deeper than poetry, and there are more lovers than lovers, so the chants that must be sent when encountered are not intentionally fishing." "Rong Zhai Three Strokes"
However, as seen in Ezhou, a woman was alone, her husband was absent-minded, and the Tang people were suspicious of Li Xia, and the Tang people did not ridicule her. Nowadays, poets rarely talk about this chapter, and talk about repetition.
Coincidentally, Bai Juyi met a woman whose husband was not alone in Ezhou and Jiangzhou. It is inevitable that people will feel that Bai Juyi is not too much sexual encounter?
Hong Mai deliberately quoted Chen Hong as saying that Bai Lotte's poetry has a deep meaning, and he likes to express it in poetry when he has experience, and he does not intend to hunt it.
2. "The Night Singer"
The poem "The Night Singer" is very similar to "Pipa Line", but it is more brief:
Night Park Parrot Island, Autumn River Moon Clear.
There are singers in the neighboring boats, and the tone is sad.
The song follows with weeping, and the sobs are swallowed again.
Looking for the voice to see its people, there are women with faces like snow.
Standing alone on the sails, Lou Ting seventeen eight.
The tears of the night are like pearls, and both fall into the bright moon.
By asking whose housewife, why is the song and weeping?
A question and a dip, a low brow finally did not say.
Like the pipa line, this is also a narrative poem. The poet's singer is only seventeen or eighteen years old, and Bai Juyi uses the three words "Yan Ruxue" to describe his beauty. The girl's singing voice is even more touching: the tone is sad.
Bai Juyi did not ask why this singer sang while crying. This poem also ends in the singer's wordless crying.
In this poem, there are not as many aphorisms as in "Pipa Xing", nor is it widely circulated in "Pipa Xing".
Perhaps, after Bai Juyi finished writing the poem, he was still unfinished, and many exquisite verses were born in his heart, so he used them in the pipa line.
III. "Pipa Line"
Leaving Ezhou, Bai Juyi went down the river and came to Jiangzhou. Here, he met a pipa girl, so he composed another song "Pipa Line"
These two poems are sisters. The singer did not answer Bai Juyi's love and did not say a word, while the pipa girl satisfied Bai Juyi's curiosity and spat out her heart.
The mysterious singer and the honest pipa girl all make Bai Juyi feel pity for the same disease:
The same is the end of the world fell people, why should they have met each other!
"Pipa Line" is divided into four paragraphs, the first paragraph, smelling and looking for people. In the second section, the pipa girl plays. In the third paragraph, the pipa woman describes her own life. In the fourth paragraph, Bai Juyi wrote about his own encounter.
"The Night Singer" is relatively short and more subtle, but "Pipa Line" is longer, introducing Bai Juyi's own feelings.
Two women, one refusing to talk to strangers, the other pouring out unreservedly.
And this empathic feeling in Bai Juyi's "Pipa Line", when he met the singer in Ezhou, it was estimated that he did not say it, so it was written in the "Pipa Line".
Conclusion
Bai Juyi wrote two poems about two women whose husbands were not around. The singer is still reserved, and the pipa girl is much more open, inviting Bai Juyi to board the ship to talk freely. It can be seen that the Tang Dynasty people were so open.
