Vuzix announced an agreement with Verizon to provide AR for sports and gaming

Vuzix said the partnership will focus on technology advancements and commercialization, providing an immersive AR training experience powered by Verizon's 5G ultra-broadband services and edge computing platform, as well as Vuzix Shield smart glasses. The agreement will also be implemented under a proof-of-concept program completed earlier this year, demonstrating Verizon's 5G edge computing platform capabilities, which use Vuzix smart glasses to run applications at the edge of the network, improving response times, extending battery life and increasing computing power.

Brian Mecum, Verizon's vice president of device technology, said it will deliver immersive technology in the areas of athletic training and fan experience by leveraging Verizon's 5G edge computing platform and Vuzix's ultra-light AR smart glasses.

"5G and edge computing are important elements that will ultimately enable low latency and optimal performance for powerful smart glasses-based applications." Paul Travers, CEO of Vuzix, said, "We are excited to further strengthen our relationship with Verizon, leveraging Verizon's 5G ultra-broadband network and our Vuzix Shield smart glasses to deliver cutting-edge AR experiences for sports and gaming. ”
