In a recent year-end special, Famitong interviewed more than 100 game producers looking ahead to 2022. One of them is Atlus producer Shinjiro Takada, who said that sometime next year, Atlus plans to release a major game that will "become the backbone of Atlus."
Takada said: "I chose 'challenge' as the keyword for 2022, hoping to release a game that can become the backbone of Atlus, and all of us at Atlus are working hard to develop this game so that everyone can be fun and satisfied, so stay tuned." ”
It's unclear what exactly this game is, but while there is speculation about Persona 6, Project Re Fantasy, which was made public in the early years, is more likely.
Project Re Fantasy is a new fantasy RPG led by Persona director Katsura Hashino and produced by Studio Zero, a new team within Atlus, which first released news as early as 2017. At the end of 2020, Atlus said the game's specific details would be released sometime in 2021, but the ongoing pandemic clearly created obstacles to game development.
Earlier this year, Atlus also said Project Re Fantasy was making progress "little by little."
Of course, Atlus has also started recruiting for the next Persona game. In September 2021, Atlus hosted an online job interview. Candidates will be assigned to one of three production teams, one for Project Re Fantasy and the other for the Persona series.
