It is worth noting that the relevant indicators of international papers in statistical reports are eye-catching. For example, according to the statistics of the number of international papers cited, China ranks first in the world in four fields such as materials science, chemistry, computer science, and engineering technology, compared with the previous year, the field of computer science has been increased; the number of international top journal papers has advanced by two places, ranking second in the world.

From 2011 to 2021, 10 disciplines in China produced more than 20% of the world's papers. Papers in the four fields of materials, chemistry, computer science and engineering technology are ranked 1st in the world in terms of citations, and papers in 10 fields such as agricultural sciences, biology and biochemistry, environment and ecology are ranked 2nd in the world.

Not only that, the number of papers in China's top international journals has risen to the second place in the world. In 2020, there were 15 international journals with more than 100,000 citations and an impact factor of more than 30, with a total of 25,500 papers, of which China published 1,833 academic papers and review articles, ranking second in the world, up 2 places from 2019.

The number of highly cited papers and hot papers that have attracted much attention continues to rank second in the world. As of September 2021, the number of highly cited papers in China was 42,900, accounting for 24.8% of the world share, an increase of 15.5% over 2020, and the world ranking remained in the second place, accounting for nearly 2 percentage points in the world share. The number of hot papers in China is 1515, accounting for 36.3% of the world total, an increase of 10.2% over 2020, and the world ranking remains in the second place.

According to reports, in order to guide science and technology management departments and scientific researchers to change from focusing on the number of papers to paying attention to the quality and impact of papers, and to stimulate original innovation, CITIC Institute actively explores and carries out excellent paper evaluation research, focusing on the contribution and impact of high-quality scientific research results. In 2020, There were a total of 493,800 outstanding scientific and technological papers in China, an increase of 27.6% over 2019, of which 246,000 excellent international scientific and technological papers and 247,800 excellent domestic scientific and technological papers. The disciplines with the highest number of outstanding papers are clinical medicine, chemistry, electronics, communications and automatic control, and biology.

The number of international co-authored papers in China continues to grow, becoming another highlight of this year's annual report. Among the international papers published in China in 2020, the number of international co-authored papers was 144,500, an increase of 14,400 over 2019, an increase of 11.1%. International co-authored papers accounted for 26.2% of the total number of papers published in China. International co-authored papers with Chinese authors as the first author account for 69.3% of all international co-authored papers in China, with partners involving 169 countries (regions).

At the same time, in 2020, among the papers published by Chinese authors, there were 485 papers with more than 100 authors and more than 50 cooperative institutions, covering topics such as particle and field physics, astronomy and astrophysics, multidisciplinary physics research, nuclear physics research, etc.

The report also pointed out that the number of Chinese scientific and technological journals entering the forefront of the world's discipline has increased, and the degree of international display has further increased. In 2020, the SCI database (Science Citation Index) included 225 Chinese scientific and technological journals, an increase of 17 over 2019; the Ei (Engineering Index) database included 229 Chinese scientific and technological journals; and the Medline (Medical Index) included 136 Chinese scientific and technological journals.

In 2020, there were 18 Chinese journals that were cited in the top quartile of the subject area (Q1 area), an increase of 2 over 2019; 85 journals with impact factors entering the Q1 region, an increase of 16 over 2019.

Data from the 2021 "China Science and Technology Journals Citation Report" pointed out that the average impact factor of China's core scientific and technological journals is 0.869, with an average annual growth rate of 6.5% since 2001; the average total frequency of journals is 1523 times, with an average annual growth rate of 9.4% since 2001, and the academic impact level of scientific and technological journals has been significantly improved.

It is worth mentioning that the international influence of the "Frontrunner 5000 - China Excellent Scientific and Technological Journals Top Academic Paper Platform (F5000)" built by CITIC has further expanded, and has obtained 6.9489 million searches, attracting international users from more than 140 countries such as the United States, Russia and Canada.
