We all know that as one of the most difficult majors to apply for in the English at present, many students are regrettably rejected by computer science.
24Fall is still in progress, and UCL has released the application data related to computer science majors. How many students have successfully won the CS major offer, and what kind of background have the students who have been successfully admitted?
01
Application data
According to the data (*admissions data for 2024 from FOI), a total of 3,619 students submitted applications for Computer Science (G400) in 2024cycle;
The number of students who received invitations to STAT was 2,306;
The number of students who submitted 3 A-level application courses with grades A*A*A was 699 and the number of A*A*A* students was 1529;
Of the students who applied for A*A*A, 222 chose Further Mathematics, and 694 of the students who applied for A*A*A* took Further Mathematics.
(*UCL said that there is no statistics on applicants who apply for more than three subjects, and 24Fall is still in progress, so the information in this data will be increased and changed in the future)
For the 2023 entry Computer Science (BSc and MEng), UCL has previously published a more complete set of data:
A total of 5,068 people applied for computer science majors, but only 427 received offers, with an offer rate of 8.4%, and the final number of admitted students was 244, with an acceptance rate of only 4.8% (lower than the 5% acceptance rate for computer science majors at the University of Oxford);
The average number of A* grades submitted by offer holders in the UK was 2.8-3.1, and the number of students studying A-level Further Mathematics was 884 (BSc) and 449 (MEng) respectively.

Introduction to the profession
At present, UCL has not released the specific information of the 25Fall computer science major, so let's take the introduction of the relevant professional information of 24Fall as an example: (take the BSc degree as an example)
In the UK's latest Research Excellence Framework (REF2021), UCL is ranked first in England for research strength in Computer Science and Informatics and second in the UK.
The Department of Computer Science is recognised as a world leader in teaching and research, and undergraduate degree programs are designed and taught by world-class researchers, ensuring they are at the cutting edge. The award-winning BSc Computer Science is part of a college-wide comprehensive engineering framework that allows students to broaden their horizons through interaction with other disciplines.
The three-year professional study course includes programming principles, computing theory, algorithms, mathematics and statistics, etc.

Graduates are highly regarded due to UCL's strong international reputation, strong links with industry and ideal location close to the City of London. Fifteen months after graduating with a Computer Science degree from University College London, the average salary is £45,000. (Source: discoveruni)
Computer Science Majors Application Score Requirements:
IGCSE Requirements: English Language and Mathematics at grade C/5
Alevel成绩要求:A*A*A,数学A*
IB score requirements: 40 points, HL 20 points, 7 points in Mathematics
Language score requirements: Level 1, IELTS 6.5 overall, 6.0 sub-score
Written Interview Requirements: Applicants are required to take the written test STAT
STAT, an exam developed by the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER) that focuses on assessing applicants' linguistic and quantitative reasoning abilities and has little to do with specialist knowledge;
The test consists of a multiple-choice test and a written English test, with 80 questions on critical and quantitative reasoning, lasting 130 minutes and costing £124.
From the end of February, UCL will be contacting 24Fall candidates to invite them to register for STAT at the following schedule:
Registration time: mid-March
Registration deadline: Wednesday, April 10, 2024
Testing window: Tuesday, April 9 to Monday, April 15, 2024
The results will be sent directly to the UCL. STAT sample questions will be sent to all shortlisted applicants once applications are received by UCL before the UCAS deadline. The UCL website states that it is not recommended that students download the practice materials directly from the STAT website because of the fee. (It depends on the students' own situation.)
)
It is uncertain whether computer science students who apply for admission after 2025 need to take the STAT exam, and we will pay attention to the relevant official website information in time and notify you as soon as possible!

Application Guidelines
The acceptance rate of less than 10% determines that students should start application planning as soon as possible to increase the probability of starting with an offer for computer science.
IGCSE Stage: Preparation Period
Focus on math and science courses, build a solid foundation in the subject, and have the opportunity to try your hand at learning elementary programming. At the same time, strengthen English listening, speaking, reading and writing skills, and prepare for A-level courses and IELTS.
Participate in extracurricular activities related to computer science to develop an interest and essential skills in the field. Learn the basic concepts of computer science through web resources, books, and more.
IGCSE to AS: Action Period
Choose an A-level course that will help with computer science, such as Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Physics or Computer Science. In-depth study of programming and computer science-related courses such as Python, Java, or C++.
Prepare for and take standardized language tests such as IELTS to ensure that you meet the language requirements at the time of application. Preparation of relevant international competitions, including Euclid/Kangaroo/Physics Bowl/CCC, etc.;
In the upcoming summer vacation, students can also participate in summer schools or programs in computer-related fields to increase practical experience.
We have secured the qualification of 20 students for the Oxford Summer School, so you can make your holiday unusual!
👉 The research camp is located at the University of Oxford, where you can immerse yourself in the study life of the University of Oxford and integrate into the multicultural environment.
👉 Compared with the 2023 research camp, more subject areas will be offered this year. There are three major fields of STEM, biomedicine, and humanities and social sciences, including mathematics, engineering, computer science, physics, medicine, psychology, biology, chemistry, law, economics, politics, history, etc.
The 40-hour professional knowledge reinforcement course is a variety, fun and unique curriculum, challenging students' perceptions of the world around them and helping them recognise their passions and academic skills.
👉 Mock interviews and personal statement tutors will deepen and expand the professional courses for different subject groups, and study the real questions in the interview to help students familiarize themselves with the G5 interview process and standards. At the same time, with the cooperation of the students, a personal essay workshop will be arranged, and the tutor will lead everyone to brainstorm and complete the basic PS framework, so as to help students continuously revise and improve the content and structure of their personal statement, and finally meet the application requirements of Oxbridge.
👉 Extra-curricular activities: Oxbridge & London City Tour, City Treasure Hunt, Punting Boat Trip, Sports Activities, Movie Nights, etc. Students will have the opportunity to visit Christ Church College, Oxford, where they can see the oldest cathedral in Oxford and the famous Hogwarts Great Hall. Afterwards, students will visit a series of Oxford University's famous museums, including the Ashmolean Museum, the Natural History Museum and the Pitt Rivers Museum. At the end of the 2-week camp, a graduation ceremony will be held for the students. In addition, students will have a formal dinner at the Oxford Chapel or in the dining room.
👉The 2-week Immersion Oxford Field Trip is not only a trip, but also an opportunity to experience the UK's top universities, develop academic literacy and broaden international perspectives. It is aimed at students aged 14 and above from famous English schools such as Oxbridge G5, and have a certain foundation in English (Wenlan internal test can be conducted), be able to communicate with foreign teachers without barriers, and adapt to the local living environment in the UK. 👉 Students are able to communicate with students from all over the world and improve their teamwork and leadership. Improve your English skills and make more like-minded friends while studying abroad! This summer, let's embark on an academic journey to Oxford and start a wonderful life of your own. Explore the infinite knowledge, feel the charm of academics, and realize your dreams!
